  1. Could oil from the engine/transcase cause this?
  2. Stop looking at the blonde! There's a blond in the picture?! Never thought of using a telescope, cool to know =)
  3. Not cool. I bet they replace the CV joints every few thousand miles haha.
  4. You can always get one made. Usually they will use the old exhaust as a template and bend the pipes on site. Usually costs a little bit more b/c it's a one off, but if you get 304 or 316 stainless it will last a LONG time. I have 304 stainless 3" it's showing a little surface rust now, but it's been on the car nearly 6 years now. I got some flak about spending X amount on the exhaust when I could get a mild steel one for 1/2 the price. Well the person in question, who changed out their exhaust at the same time I did is on his 3rd 'cheap' mild exhaust. I think you can do the math =)
  5. Sorry Tony, I get distracted easy... Woo shiny! ... I am going to have a read over everything, then sit down and read again =)
  6. Track days are not that expensive. When we tracked our 2.0 turbo rover the rough costs where: Track day - £120 Petrol - circa £200 or less depending on the track.. that's also driving to and from the track. Tyres : they lasted 3 to 4 events.. depending on track. So it's not that much and we got a good 2 - 3 hrs driving each. I wish I had more time and the car still as I need to scratch my track day itch! Your pocketbook must be pretty deep to consider £500+ cheap for a few hours fun I guess relative to door-to-door racing it is. Sounds good, will let you know when =)
  7. Ok, I understand a tiny bit now. Thanks =)
  8. It's something else to hear a big V8 scream to 8k+ Sprint cup now they are trying to turn them to 9200+ on some tracks. Indy, now that would be something to see. Hopefully next year! It's a good atmosphere in NASCAR. I don't think I saw a person without a pick-up or a tall boy in their hands =)
  9. It's a huge cost for trackdays when you compare to 'simulator' type fun. Though you do get what you pay for, nothing is better than feeling every curb and bump. Tyres screaming for mercy! (so is your pocket book!) Experience days are a good option. Least you don't have to pay the maintenance/wear costs. Would anyone be interested in going down to Southampton for a day? It's not a 'proper' simulator, but big projector screens with pedals/steering wheel. http://www.theracecentre.co.uk/ It's 'cheap' fun and good for a laugh =) There is a decent pub not far from it too. Been here a couple times. I could look at getting something set up for later in the year.
  10. Motors TV will show it now and again. The bigger races get in PPV though I think, or at least one of the 'pay' channels. I watch it on Motors TV. Wish I watched last weekends race, short-tracks are a blast to watch. I would love to go to Bristol and watch a race. I went to a Nationwide(Bush) race at Darlington once. That was an experience. The stands/ground would shake every time the field would go by. The 'noise' wasn't as loud as the old V10 F1 cars though.
  11. I take it Tony that you have seen this conversation a few times before?
  12. Didn't realize you could get readers for that cheap. They only cover certain fault codes? I have http://diablosport.com/ They are vehicle specific though, and they cater for the USA market so not many European makes are covered =(
  13. Did they not tell you when you bought the car that driving in the rain just after midnight was a bad idea? =P (gremlins) Bummer, that's a good overtime payment too! Hope you can get it fixed easy.
  14. What about double wishbone suspensions? The KPI/SAI is still taken from the lower ball joint and outer tie rod end? SAI is what helps wheels return to 'centre'? Caster gets the nod for this instead since it can alter the SAI? Would adding positive caster increase SAI since the hub would rotate the steering arm downward in relation to the lower ball joint? Or is it more complex than this? Ackerman angle will either decrease or increase the toe on the inside wheel, depending on the angular measurement built into the steering arms coming off the hubs? (looking from the top-down)
  15. Been reading through some of your training material on the front of the site. I always wondered why the car/truck would lift when I turned the wheel while when parking. Now I know! Kingpin inclination. This also helps with wheels returning to centre. Is this right? When you add caster in with kingpin inclination during a turn the forward tire(outside) would not push downward as much, which would help keep negative camber? And in turn the rearward tire(inside) would have more lift than if there was 0 caster, reducing negative camber? This would help maintain the contact patches during a corner? Kingpin axis is a line drawn between the upper/lower ball joints? I know there is a lot more going on, but baby steps here =) Wouldn't then also have an effect on body roll since you would be raising the inside and lowering the outside? Wondered too if it was possible to have a roll-over blow up of pictures. Been reading about KPI and included angles and cannot really see whats being pointed to what. Not that it's a big deal, I can just make it out I think.
  16. Curious Tony, who you think is going to pull the championship in the Sprint Cup this year?
  17. Thanks for the offer! I don't have a compressor either Is why I don't have a leakdown tester LOL Between the two that would be a good penny. I have been consuming that much for a few years now. Long story short the car was parked stateside... I gave my brother the keys to run it now and again until I could ship it... Sounds like he was 'starting' it most weekends, which involved trips to the local street strip.... since then it's burned oil. My brother never understood the concept of 'warm-up or 'cool-down'. To him if the thing ticked over the engine was good for a few redline runs... That was a good 50k miles ago now. What happened when you took out the engine? Getting WAY OT here LOL How far you from Milton Keynes? Maybe Tony would let us have a WIM 'Have a Leak' day?! I don't think I need the leakdown b/c of the oil consumption, it's just good maintenance for a performance engine and something that should be done regularly IMO. Should analyse my oil too to check for wear, but being cheap
  18. Looks like a quality piece of kit! I'm impressed, must sound mean now =)
  19. I am on the throttle a lot and use light weight oil (running 20+ PSI on the turbo atm). I'm not worried where my oil is going. I know exactly where. I have to empty my catchcan every month or so, it probably only holds about 50mil or so. 3k for 1 qt is nothing to worry about. Tells me that I have slightly worn rings and I get a bit of seepage from my oil pump. Compression is 160 across the board. If someone had a leakdown tester I could see exactly where the problem is(I suspect the rings are a little loose, it's a loose engine anyways). I also have slight fuel dilution with the fuel getting into the oil, which pretty much every turbo user gets if they actually use their car since turbo cars run richer than N/A cars. Sure I could chase it, but how much money am I going to spend chasing a problem that isn't really a problem? The engine won't blow up on me b/c I use a little bit of oil. Is it ideal? No, but there is no way I am going to rebuild an engine because of it.
  20. Tons =) I think we will have to agree to disagree on this one.
  21. Haha some barbie in her mustang flies in, parks funny then walks away talking on her phone =)
  22. I guess it depends on the race series, in general to have sufficient overlap you must be past the rear axle, clearly this guy was. Regardless if you are on the racing line, if you have an off you must yield your position until the next corner since you could have had an advantage from your 'off' which this guy might well have. You can fit 2 through there if you know what you are doing. Is it gentlemanly? No, but shunting a guy off the track is not an excuse. Oh Tony look at what you started again!
