  1. Ok - here is some footage from the new camera (a G-206 HD car video recorder) on a really sunny day - it's the first journey out, so I think I may need to reposition it to reduce reflections. Please wait a few moments for Video to Load! Much clearer than the previous one, and this one just saves avi files on the micro-SD card so it's really easy to transfer files - either by using the card directly, or plugging a USB cable into a computer and accessing them. ttfn
  2. Unless he looked in his mirror he may have been unaware of anything, it looks fine until after the lorry is well past the car in front. At least everyone is Ok, though the lorry driver looks trapped in his cab.
  3. Ok the car-cam that I bought blew up it's micro-SD card. I wasn't too impressed with it anyway so I ended up getting one of these. I was looking around and found this review of both that camera and it's little brother which looked promising. I'll try and post some real-life footage when I get a chance, but I'm hopeful that it will be a good buy. At this rate though I might as well splash out on a proper one or maybe one of these. ttfn
  4. Wow - close call there, I bet the guy is glad he hung back, he might have been under that when it fell over.
  5. Very interesting - though I'm not sure that a .5 counts as a small arm. Still - not as cool as : ttfn
  6. Very nice looking garden there Tony - ours is not recovering from the hell hounds turning it into a WW1 reenactment. I spent the afternoon strimming the very long grass - we'll have to go over it again with the mower at some point, but for now it's just looking a different sort of mess. umm dessert <> desert ttfn
  7. Well at least 5 years should be long enough for the repairs to his vehicle to be sorted out. Maybe no waiting next time? well - aside from the 5 year wait I guess. What an idiot - I wonder if alcohol was involved? ttfn
  8. In a country where 'speed holes' makes sense* - who knows! At least I'm assuming that this is the USA? *A Simpsons episode where a car was being shot at - Homer called them speed holes
  9. There are some options, I have a bluetooth ODB scanner which I use with this free android app. I also have a USB version which I use with my laptop and this software. The main thing it seems, is that the car has to be 2002 or newer for petrol, 2004 for diesels, and some companies (VW, Audi, Seat) do things differently. ttfn
  10. I bought an R300 from iCove (or whatever it's called) for £60, to see if it was worth it. Please wait a few moments for Video to Load! I would say that on the whole it wasn't for the following reasons: Even parked behind a vehicle you can't read it's numberplate, When a file is saved you only get the .avi - no GPS or acceleration data, though the device does store this data as part of each journey you can't save it? The dual-camera is ok for a taxi driver, but it doesn't do a good rear view out of the car (which is what I was hoping it would give). You need a separate micro-SD card reader since it doesn't act as a drive when connected to USB (USB does power only) It does some good things that are worth checking: Records a journey from engine on to off in one file (doesn't , Easy to fold out of the way when not in use. Has a separate GPS aerial, Not too big. Easy to use despite the chinglish instructions. I don't know what it is like at night or going through a tunnel etc. but it's a typical 'get what you pay for'. If I was driving a lot then I would invest in one of the roadhawks or similar - as it is if I do have an accident this might help, though speed and position aren't savable so they are rather redundant. ttfn
  11. So the RFL is basically how much the wheel is pulling/pushing on the steering system? The longer the lever the more force is felt on the steering wheel for the same input at the wheel (say a flat tyre or pothole)? A bit like torque steer (where the engine power can deform the steering) but it's determined by how far the steering axis is away from the wheel axis. Or am I mis-reading/understanding that? ttfn
  12. I can see why BB likes this sort of activity ttfn
  13. Easy - you never negotiate with terrorists, if they contact you just say that you have no idea who the bunny belongs to and it's nothing to do with you. (besides which it looks photo-shopped) ttfn
  14. Here is another site to give a sense of scale - from the size of a proton to 100 billion light years. ttfn
  15. So what are you going to do with it? Nail it to the wall? Use it as a coffee table base? Doorstop? ttfn
  16. Maybe in this country but who knows what's legal (and proper) in wherever this country is. Even so it seems that the biker was doing what bikes do anyway, and the car was deliberately trying to block him off. At least undue care and attention, possibly attempted murder - at least the video would make it easier for the truth to be found out - just like this one: Please wait a few moments for Video to Load! ttfn
  17. Might also come in handy for towing cars out of ditches, at festivals and other such things I guess. You only find out how useful a tractor is when you have one :-) ttfn
  18. I used to see them a lot going over the M4, which I used to use quite a bit. The best moment though was when I went out to buy some stamps and one flew over low and slow - I had actually forgotten it was their last flying day and I saw one of the last concord flights right above South Oxhey. Real shame that Branson wasn't allowed to buy them as well. ttfn
  19. Just paid for a year online - at least it's now recorded so the police database will updated straight away, and since the MoT and insurance are checked electronically it's pretty painless, aside from the amount anyway - still could be worse if I had got a picasso it would be more. ttfn
  20. And the twins .... That's why it's a good thing that more men are engineers than women - women wouldn't design a camera to do that :-)
  21. They obviously need to watch this: Please wait a few moments for Video to Load!
  22. Nasty - not a thing that they could have done either. I'm seriously considering getting an in-car camera, despite not doing that many miles a year.
  23. Please wait a few moments for Video to Load!
  24. What's fair got to do with it? Manufacturers are playing to the factors that influence them; cost & profit mainly, but also legal requirements, reviews, recently how fast their new car will go around the Nurburgring! etc. etc. When buying a car you look at many factors, cost is certainly one of them, but others are down to you. If you're favourite car is now too expensive because of the extra features then your choice is to look for another car or spend more money than you wanted to. No-one is forcing you to buy a specific car (yet) so everyone is playing this balancing act game where supply and demand will hopefully balance out to provide safe and reliable (for the first 3 years anyway) cars that people want at a price that is competitive. The only problem I can forsee is people that decide that they want to play 'bonnet popping' with cars - a bit like that 'craze' that was supposed to appear (because of airbags) some time ago where kids would nick a car and crash it into a wall for the rush. Funny I haven't heard anything about that recently ttfn
