Not wrong that sign, though how much use it is to drivers is a mystery :-) Quite a speed limit on that route!

Shortly (when there is a dry saturday and we're not booked to do something) I will be doing a cam belt & water pump change on my twin cam. The kit (including water pump) was purchased from ebay and there's a special tool to hold the cam and crank shafts at TDC, and I am going through all the sections of the Haynes manual to put together a crib list procedure, tightening order and torque settings etc. The only real question I have is about the water pump seal - the kit has a 'paper' gasket, but Haynes only mentions putting a loctite 518 sealant around the pump mating faces. What is the wisdom on this: 1) Forget gasket and use loctite 518 on mating faces 2) Forget loctite and use gasket 3) use loctite on gasket My inclination is number 1, but I am open to opinions. The job is a lot more than I am used to (last did one of these about 15 years ago on my air-cooled Citroen GS(A)s) - there are replacement pulleys, cam shaft seals and the belt has no markings, so I need some tippex this time as well. ttfn

A crazy (and soon-to be Darwin award winner I suspect) makes a pulse jet and welds it to a modified bicycle.

'A meeting has been arranged for September to discuss the uniform issue.' Yes - you can wear shorts, just no ballerina skirts again ok?

I had a job at an estate agents (for a day) where I was supposed to be setting up a computer system for them, but they also (since the only way they could afford me' was to get me doing other jobs!) wanted me to go out and take photos of properties. They were talking to me as though I was a 6-year old 'now make sure that you always put it back in this place', 'always make sure the batteries are ok' etc. Which is why I didn't go back the next day. ttfn

Instant reacting cop stops suicide.....
GamithUK replied to Tony's topic in Non-Car Related Photos/Videos
The cop was watching him, I suspect that the guy walking really close to the edge tipped him off that the guy needed watching, and when the train arrived the cop was watching the guy, not the train. Still, great save and well done to the cop. -
Well at least her finger isn't on the trigger - it looks that way anyway.

Boeing 747 crash caught on dashcam.....

Looks to me as though the plane was climbing steeply, and that's when the cargo must have shifted since it stopped going forwards, tipped up and then fell out of the sky. dang adam that sig picture is too distracting! ttfn -
Case in point - strong headwinds means this Piper cub is flying backwards: And here's another aircraft flying sideways: https://www.youtube.com/watch?feature=player_detailpage&v=9gfGZwRDPRM

The very last bit comes from this video, which is worth a click :-) -

Hmm - the original site (http://izismile.com/2013/02/28/wtf_pictures_compilation_part_11_58_pics_10_gifs.html) has no info on it at all. I can only imagine that the cold and something like a lorries bumper combined? bit of a mystery. ttfn

Horror of the week 13/02/13....Double failure
GamithUK replied to Tony's topic in Horror Of The Week
>everyone will have no choice but to drive 4x4's Or hydraulic Citroens :-) which means you can also lower the vehicle to make cat. converters (and under-slung spare wheels) much harder to steal - 4x4s are prone to those issues. I was going to go for a C5 rather than a Renault Scenic, but the 'boot' is too low to put Christophers' trike in. ttfn -
Largest glacier calving ever filmed.......
GamithUK replied to Tony's topic in Non-Car Related Photos/Videos
Seismic detectors would give a clue that something was pretty imminent, but to get properly sited in the first place they would need to look at the various glaciers and they retreat rates and then make a best guess. I noticed that they didn't bother giving a tonnage estimate - it would be like saying that 3 or 4 Londons (on top of each other) suddenly decided to float away. Scary that the glacier has retreated more in the last 10 years that in the previous 10 years. -
:-) much like any dog then (aside from a collie or other working breed)

s/downer/doner/ It's a good thing that the other drivers weren't all over the road as he was.
-
He he - fishing for police men, I wonder if they caught any...
-
I can't imagine what could go wrong with that. Though I do wonder how far we are away from cars that can drive you to where you want to go and then back again afterwards - leaving you to be gently massaged by your seat all the way.

Horror of the week 12/01/13 Smooth as ice.....
GamithUK replied to Tony's topic in Horror Of The Week
Best for everyone that the driver decided to get them checked out before the inevitable happened - especially with snow being forecast. They should still know better though. -
