  1. With a shutter speed so fast I could almost juggle camera and still get a "still" image! So no tripod. The first pic is focused on the nearest fountain, but the second admitadly is a little zoomed out for some peoples tastes. I did take more, but thought I'd pop two varied ones
  2. well im fortunate enought to have finaly sorted a holiday, so this week im posting from (suprisingly) sunny York. im very much into ancient achitecture and ruins but something ive always had fun with is slowing the world down to see what it looks like, heres a couple of shots of a recognisable York fountain at around 2000th of a second still lots for me to learn, please comment
  3. your certainly not crap and i wouldnt say its bad, its certainly heading in the right direction. first thing i would do is turn of the date stamp, its a sure way to distract you from an images content. the second thing is the framing of an image, not the boarder but how you possition the images content when you take the photo, youve got a good layout there but theres a lot of light bouncing off the subject and back at the camera. Sagitar mentioned in a post a few days ago about waiting for the right time of day, where the light gives you the best oppertunity to take the photo you want. At this time of year where the nights are quite long i tend to take detailed shots in the softer late evening light or early morning light, rather than the strong daytime sun. It is strong and will make it harder as a begginer to get the images to a repeatable good standard. im only running a 10 mega pixel camera so yours has more resolution than mine, its just taking your time and considering whether it is actualy the correct time to take the picture you want to take. im in york this week on holiday and its been a scorcher, so taking photos with my limited experience is proving difficult especially with trying to avoid over exposure where the image gets too much light, washing out the colours. hopefuly over the next few days i can post some bits up
  4. awsomeness, is there or when will there be a list of authorised WIM oporators?
  5. then its a tree of great substance, im sure she would appreciate the sentiment.
  6. how is this going now? has said web master recovered from his anal javalin incident?
  7. thanks so whats the back story tony? it is a tree of substance, the kind i can imagine sitting under as a teenager.
  8. jesus! ive heard of camber bolts but this takes it to another level!
  9. i thought i would open a new thread for landscapes as it seems were all running around taking photos of cars, animals and flowers a beautiful day at Tintern Abbey on bank holiday sunday, anyone who has been might recognise this lone tree
  10. thanks guys, i took a fair few while there and i was quite supprised that the white on their faces is actualy pure white skin. im still picking things up but im very pleased with the photos i got. I pay a lot of attention to my surroundings when taking pictures and imagine what i want it too look like as a finished peice before actually taking the photo. i find myself obsessing over the smallest of things and repeating my attempts untill i finally achieve my goal, this is a great attribute to have untill of course my fiance's patience runs out, which of course will be before mine does! I always found i had a nack for capturing "the moment" with my snappy photography as a kid and told i framed images quite well while in college, so i now try and take that further with better equipment and learning new techniques, but as with all things you will get many that are close but not quite: but it doesnt really matter, theres alot to learn and we should remind ourselves to enjoy the good ones we do take!
  11. isnt that from a few years ago? anyway heres a few others, most man made, but the best are natural http://listverse.com/2008/09/21/top-10-ama...s-in-the-earth/
  12. i went to a local gardens this bank holiday monday to a family friends birthday picnic. In all fairness i was a little bored, but i did bring my camera and to my pleasent supprise they had about 12 peacocks. So after the success of my 'bin peaking peacock' photo i thought i would give it another go with capturing these quite strange creatures on camera. feel free to comment
  13. i think thats why they very kindly started this photography forum within WIM, which i have to say a big thank you for! just start a new thread with the questions you want asking and im sure you will get answers, both from novice users like myself through to quite expert photographers. I think its proof that time, patience and over all a willingness to learn is what makes someone good at something. Sagitar your photography is beautiful, i know you have said before that you are just an amateur photographer but your skill far exceeds the lable you have given yourself. beautiful!
  14. im finding it troublesome to search for threads related to the car i drive, it appears that your search feature requires 4 or more letters to search which makes looking for MR2 informtion a little tricky. When trying to resolve it in my head by adding other MR2 related words i realised that hardly anyone mentions Toyota when talking about their MR2 nor do any other MR2 references extend beyond the 3 digit mark ie 'mk2 MR2' is it possible or viable to shorten it down to a 3 digit search? cheers phip
  15. indeed, thats probably as much as you could hope to achieve at this stage. Its great to 'feel' the movement in progress and it helps that you are so open about your ethos. I look forward to somewhere a little closer to Hereford working the WIM way
  16. Awsome news, wish you the best of luck, but then I'm sure everyone who frequents this forum will eagerly await updates :-)
  17. ^^ good man, commendable behaviour
  18. Now to me that's cool, using photoshop as a creative tool works. As I said I work at an art college and I can apreciate the merits of a creative ability, my argument is more to do with the attitude of 'I'll fix that later' or 'remove that telegraph pole'. Why not simply find another location
  19. nice few examples. i assume you had drunk the pint come the time you took the wine glass photo im not too keen zoomed in copies of the photos, theres something about a subject breaking the edges of the frame, the last flowers petals cut through the frame, the mushroom does the same at its base and it grates on me for some reason. its strange because theyre really good photos so it must be my peculiarity!
  20. ^^ thats basicly where i stand, i strive to take the photo i wish to see displayed. if something obstructs my view i would rather not take the photo than go 'post production' on my it. I work at an art college and its interesting to see what lengths people will go to to remidy an issue, or completely alter an image to their own preferences. I see this as a lazy aproach which makes more work in the long run. Maybe im just a little anal about it? i like the "do it right, do it once" approach in all things saves time by not having to fix the mistakes later
  21. i can see youve already got the feel for framing shots now. a small adjustment can make a huge difference to an image when it comes to sitting the subject in a confident possition in the frame. we should start an "animal obscured by..." thread lol
  22. false, the roof line of the tunnel wouldnt allow for a smooth transition without heavy modification, this line has conveniently been 'smoothed' out. I cant imagine that would be possible as looking at the rest of the tunel it overhangs.
  23. ^^ well said! Regards to the a200, as I said, it suits me fine, there are higher resolution cameras and better quality pictures, but for the price point and the features held within this model, I realy don't think you would be dissapointed. The menus are intuetive and buttons "to hand" which makes the photographic process more pleasureable and Sony have spent time thinking about how the end user will use the camera not just try and cram as much gadgetry in as possible. A canon or a nikon of the same price point will give you equal quality but as with golfclubs or cars the a200 simply felt right for me and has been a dream to use as my first dslr
