    Snow chains

thats brought a whole new meaning to BMW driver FAIL. seriously though pushing a car whilst in 'D'
  5. urm... the camer car was doing more than 70. when he looked down at the speedo it clearly shows him sitting at about 155km.. which is 95.6 mph. the rate that the vett flew by is hard to judge as the camera man moves the camera. But consider you where standing over the motorway looking at a car comming towards you / past at 90 ish.. 180mph mark does sound right.
  6. Camera car was doing roughly 155 km, so thats 95-96 mph in normal speeds.. i would say the vett was doing about 170 ish
  7. 'proper' snow isnt wet at all. its almost like powder.. great to ski in if its only a think layer too
  8. whats wrong with a wooden chassis ? My MG has a wooden chassis and i hardly ever need to touch it!
  9. Blimey.... really does make you think, doesnt it!
  10. way to revive an old thread.. but that car is serious P0rn!
  11. You win..... My deception failed. Offset is normally just a "will they fit" issue, but it's also important the tyre contact patch remains inside the SAI projection so that the cars weight is inside the steerings pivotal point. so Tony, what does this mean to use mere mortals ? does it screw up the handling characteristics of the car ?
  12. Hmm, What implications would occure if we where to lower the chassis on that type of suspension setup ? We purchased some cheap lowering springs / shocks, but they are no use now. Since we have stripped the car, the overall weight has dropped significantly and we can now easily fit our fist between the top of the tyre and the wheel arch at the front... and at the back its an even bigger gap!
  13. a few possabilities: 1) hard to balance 2) the rim must be quite chunky to support the load of the tyre as the main body of the wheel is near the centre. 3) the load being distributed through from the hub to the wheel to the tyre, means the wheel isnt going to be 'that' strong due to the fact the load is having to be fed through a 90 degree angle before the force is being spread over the tyre. im a noob, what do i know!
  14. well i needed to add a touch of coolant, so added a very small amount of anti freeze. the windscreen washer bottle got a full dose of winter solution after work, due to the fact i got out of work cleaned my windscreen and found the fluid had frozen on the windshield! lol
  15. front is double wish bone, coil over strut. the rear is also coil over strut, but its not double wish bone, infact i havent seen suspension like it before. if its any help it shares its suspension with a 6th gen honda accord.
  16. I have managed to bang some sense in to my friend who has gone off the idea.. ! I did have a thought though, Tony is a keep man on these GAZ coilovers / suspension... would they every be interested in trying to make us some for the track car ? and a rought cost ?
  17. Good morning As some of you may know, a friend of mine and I run an old rover 600 ti as a track car. its an old beast that we dont care about too much. Anyway, my friend had an idea last night in regards to our suspension for the track, which to me sounds crazy and stupid. His idea is to buy another set of dampers for the car, remove the damper and weld a solid peice of pipe from the main body of the suspension strut to the top mount. thus giving us rock solid suspension with little to no 'give'. now.. my knowledge of suspension may be limited but this to me really would not be a good idea for handeling due to the fact it would make the car too ridgid, therefore causing the chassis to flex more than usual and causing 'hopping' through corners. can any of you shed any more light on this ? i told him to stop being such a barryboy, but he was adamant that we could get 'elise handling' for under £100. Adam
  18. you can see the tyres are brand new due to the stickers still being on them.... i wonder how many miles he will get before they start looking like that x5's tyres! i doubt he will get 1000 miles with such load going through such a small patch of tyre.... and his steering :bananapopcorn:
  19. got them fitted and a geo done by a local firm who i have previously used for years due to their effort in getting things perfect. the car drives pretty well actually, i will have to get the print out sheet but they did an ok job.... no castor readings taken though ? car goes straight when letting go of the weel and tends off with the camber of the road. also no more 'dead' zone... i was told this was due to the fact in had a rather large amount of toe in on the front and back causing the premature inner wear on the F/N/S tyre. no colour lines... only thing the tyres did have is that yellow dot on the inside
  20. Ah ok. If i buy the allignment over blackboots do i pay the garage on completion ? or do i pay online ?? i presume that WIM provide the garage with the correct settings for the car ?
  21. that very amusing i would have added a bit of car swerving in there too just to make it that little bit better
