might not be the brakes at all ..... IS200 ball joints have been known to wear :crying_anim:

would this be easy to do or is it a garage jobby

Was going to suggest "bring her in for some free diagnostics" but Sheffield is quite a trek. Is it possible you can take the car to a local MOT testing centre and have the brake performance measured front/rear... Offer the tester a fiver and get some valuable diagnostics so we can help?.... Leave the knocking complaint for now, we will deal with that later.

Re the judder, has the disc runout been checked? Is it within spec? Was it OK when fitted, but developed over time?

took it in this morning got a call 25mins later that they had found problem it was a balance weight had fallen off nearside wheel had both wheels rebalanced no vibration at all, didnt cost a penny either as i get my tyres form this guy. superb. just the knocking to be sorted which the garage says is probably a off side ball joint so still waiting for estimate.

thanks guys.

Result.... Unusual though but result nevertheless... Regarding the knocking be sure to check the "drop link" these historically knock and only cost £30 to replace.
