Noel
Hi, My RS200 Altezza has now got two front tyres that are very worn on the inside edges......( will be changing them soon, just need a little advice first).... I thought this was only a problem on the IS200 as i heard they are setup different for Europe? Thing is.... these are the same tyres that were on the car when i got it, ( Dunlop directionals with half their thread left).... i did check them when i got it and this edge wear wasn't even starting.... To be totally honest..... i have driven the sh*t out of it as i had to suffer a diesel for 5 years ( family reasons) and had alot of fun to make up for...... As i live in rural Ireland and seem to be having a job finding somewhere that have a clue about geometry ... I am hoping that you may be able to assist. My car hasn't been lowered.....It's the equivalent of an IS200 sport, or so i believe Would it be helpful if i took a picture of each tyre and posted this up.....??? Roads aren't great in this area either, have hit a few potholes.... Basically any guidance on what needs to be adjusted if any thing before i put the new rubber on would be greatly appreciated Thanks in advance Noel
Noel
I hope this is ok..... ( reason the first one looks thinner than the rest is i resized the rest to make them the same size to fit onthe page side by side ... ) Will these pictures be of any assistance in determining what is wrong with my cars setup...? more info...... standard 5 spoke 17" Alloys with Dunlop "direzza" directional tyres.... 215 x 45 x 17, They were part used when i bought the car back in January and have since done 12,000 Irish miles... ( oh my God, didn't realise how fast the miles were clocking up.... )... Thanks
Tony
very well constructed images, well done! The wear pattern is camber/pressure related... What i found with the IS200 when LOC asked 'What's wrong' with our cars, is the dynamic camber positions are calculated wrong. If static the camber were reduced...then the toe, the rotation of the wheel consequently moves the caster to UK spec Historically the front camber positions need to be -20' and the tyre pressures at 35psi not 33. Noel
Hi Tony, thanks for the reply...... so from your expert experience, all i need to get adjusted is the camber on all wheels and to raise the psi to 35.......correct? you say fronts -20'..... is it the same for the rears? From my pictures, do you think the car has a slight problem or is it urgent...... Thanks

From my pictures, do you think the car has a slight problem or is it urgent...... Thanks All the rear positions should remain 'stock'. The front camber position of -20' complimented with the 35psi has been proven.... But i never consider every example as 'absolute' so we need to communicate the initial and final positions..... Remember i am 'blind' to your cars actual positions and offer advice born from past successful examples... As a recommended guide the -20 is a safe zone... once measured the initial positions will reinforce the final outcome... once visible. And your tyre/Geometry images are believe it or not 'low level' trauma in the Lexus scale of wear?
Noel
OK thanks, low level tramua is a good result now to find a garage that firstly know what camber -20 means and secondly have the equipment to measure and sort it..... I'll post back if I'm successful.... cheers

Noel
Hi Tony, Back again...... but not successful, I can't find a garage with the proper equipment anywhere reasonably close so a full print out is not going to happen.... The garage i take my car to at present, their main mechanic is an ex-rally guy who says he knows more about setting up cars than any young pup with a computer ..... so i told him about WIM's expertise and he said get the settings from there and he'll set it up as such.... So Tony would you be so kind as to give me the recommend default positions and settings to use for my car.... Thanks very much Noel

Rally or not how is the car going to be measured/corrected understand if i suggest a set-up then my name is on that!... a spirit level and a plumb bob is not exactly the wim way.... Noel
OK Tony... didn't mean to put you on the spot..... But would it be possible to post the recommended Lexus settings? Could you then add an observation of what is wrong with the Lexus settings that you have corrected for other peoples cars.... Then i could use this example of what was done with the proper equipment and expertise as a reference point and not as a official recommendation from you as such...... Unfortunately it's this or nothing for now.... one of the disadvantages of living in a rural setting cheers
