MondeoGhiaX
hi, i'm considering purchasing some alloy wheels for another car that must be about 30 years old and in need of tidying up. i suspect they will have been stored without tyres on them. they are quite hard to find these days, so i could be waiting another 6 months for another chance to get some. i have heard some scare stories about old alloys failing (breaking up) - even refurbished ones. or that they wont hold air well any more. should i steer clear of this sort of thing, or are these just very unlucky people? thanks. Tony
The only problem i know of is the bead line where the tyre sits becomes pitted... Most tyre places now use a liquid rubber sealant that expands between the tyre and rim to stop slow leaks.... You should be fine

MondeoGhiaX
is it safe to buy alloys from a breakers? i have found some through one of these internet parts searches. i assume they at least visually check them, but could there be hidden damage? after all, most cars in breakers are there because they've crashed. but they are so cheap i'm very tempted. cheers.
