bbqking
Hello My Mondeo currently has Toyo Proxes T1-R's all round. Seeing as they are directional tyres, what would be a good tyre (and type ) to have on the spare? A directional tyre would be ill-advised for obvious reasons, therefore I am after advice on what would be a good choice of tyre to fit. Thanks
Tony
Space savers are symmetrical regardless of the actual road tyres tread pattern, so it's cheaper to go for this type if pattern. If you decide to have a directional tread patten then have it confederated for the near side. reason being..... 1> It's estimated in dry weather the tyres run over 700 potential objects per mile capable of penetrating the tyre tread 3mm 2> It's estimated in wet weather the tyres run over 1300 potential objects per mile capable of penetrating the tyre tread 3mm 3> 87% of punctures occur in the rear 4> 63% of these are the near-side-rear UK respectfully 5> No particular tread configuration is resilient to penetration 6> Most rear penetrations are due to the "lifting properties" of the front tyres. 7> Most penetrations are metallic Data supplied by Tyre trade news July 2005 In view of this information it's wise to have a directional spare tyre set for the NSR and have the best tread depth at the rear. jon
Interesting data tony, particularly as I'm sure you're aware it's tyre safety month: http://www.tyrereviews.co.uk/Article/tyre-safety-month.htm If the tyre is a space saver I'd probably throw anything on and just drive very carefully if I ever needed it
