  1. sod that - i'm winching over the internet !
  2. Completely inappropriate - but i kind of like it
  3. the front has a got a 350z kind of feel
  4. really? You can get widebody ones? should be better for those with longer legs/more sturdy backsides (me included)
  5. faaack! Thats a hardcore item though - spaceframe and diffusers/wings! What about a bike engined caterham or even a mini? Seriously rapid kit, sequential box amazing sound and might be vaguely road legal
  6. i thought you could get right hookers on the more modern ones?
  7. Delorean? Corvette? you can supercharge those for over 500BHP. Wont turn though but i couldn't think of a better person to tackle that one.
  8. Tut tut tone - i am surprised this one hasn't come up : Supercharged MX5 i would say Mk1 but perhaps a Mk3 might be something for a bit more of a modern big car feel? I know going by your last 2 choices you would like something slightly bigger but i could see this being of use commercially as well as personally. People would look to what you are running and come to you to have the same perhaps? outside of the obvious a Mk4 supra is a good choice...HOWEVER - If you want something unique (and prepared to go a bit off the beaten track) the Jap import Mk3 is a twin turbo (1JZ) so has the performance and the looks which are kind of similar to the lotus. These are quite rare however are great cars if you are into that thing. I had a turbo Mk3 and i always lusted after the 1JZ version - much better engine. Do you want something a bit different?
  9. I wouldn't dare try for fear of ruining the wheels, and I'm not sure I could just bowl into somewhere and ask for that? Would be nice if i could use regular valves though
  10. If thats the case i'll come over and kill a few birds with one stone!
  11. lol cheers mate probably have to order a few sets off the net and see what fits i guess.... comes with having obscure rims i suppose
  12. What a nightmare. Standard valves won't fit. I need some slightly narrower around 7.5mm dia on the stem that bolt in.. Have you seen this before tone? Bit of a loss what to do now!
  13. Nice one. Ok we'll I'll be over soon for a checkup on the 5 and some bits so we can maybe talk about it then. Cheers
  14. Alright tone Just wondering when the time comes to refurb my wheels whether you could give them a once over and make sure there are no nasties, and redo them with satin black centres and polished lips again? there are some almost unnoticeable grazes that have been wet sanded back but they still need a bit more work to totally disappear. They're in very good nick generally but its doesn't compare against a professional job How much would i be looking at per wheel to get them done roughly and what sort of timescales? Also whats your views on valves - i've got leaky screw in jobs which look a bit old that are getting swapped out this weekend (losing air from all 4!) - its it just easier all round if i stick to the basic jobbies? Are the screw in types generally more troublesome or have i just been unlucky? Cheers Steve
  15. 3 settings isn't such a bad thing. I had 20 or so on each corner on the 200sx and was forever messing with it! Off to try and find some pics of the ride heights. Can you recall which springs offer the lower ride height?

    Lorbers - Close Up

    From the album: Steve-O's MX5

Satin black with polished lip. Tidy enough for now but will be getting a professional strip down and refurb soon. In the mean time they are easy enough to touch up and clean up very well ! Love these to death - a quite rare wheel and suit the car perfectly IMO.

Charting the progress of the MK1 MX5
  18. From the album: Steve-O's MX5

Last weekend she got a new set of wheels - 15" x 7" Lorbers on 195/50/15 Yoko Parada 2's. Offset 33. Satin black painted centres with polished lips. Requires some TLC and elbow grease to keep them nice buut its worth it as you can see in the closer image in the album! Next up - new shocks and springs - hopefully drop her down and tuck the new wheels into the arches a shade more....
  19. I've done coilovers before - was an age ago so not sure if you remember, i came to you back at Kipling, and then at Chesham when you first opened with my S14a 200sx and it was all polybushed and had some BC fully adjustable coilovers on on 18" Rotas. The handling on a billiard smooth road or track was great (be it understeery), but outside of that on public roads the top mounts knocked, i had to keep the collars clean and protected so they didnt seize, the collars sometimes came undone slight and the springs started chattering (to be fair that was only early on). Basically i've been down that route and want something that is low maintenance and is fast on imperfect roads. I genuinely believe coilovers aren't as comfortable or as fast as a decent spring and shock combo in day to day conditions. That and the fateful day where i beasted the WiM/Gaz Mx5 at japfest back to back against the 200 and had me sell the car and jump into an MX5 with a month it was that much fun! Sometimes less is more. What do you reckon on the eibachs with KYB adjustables Tone? Do you think they are the best combo, and would give me a tiny bit more of a drop to sit the wheels in the arch a bit better?
  20. Thanks mate I like the black also - at first i didnt know if it works but i think it ties in with the black along the bottom and the polished lips makes them a bit special. They were actually refurbed by the previous owner and not quite as tidy as the photo suggests but they are still in very good condition. I am going to get them refurbed professionally in the same colour etc later on. I've always wanted a set of Lorbers ever since i saw one of my neighbours Mk1 with a set on. I know wheels are a personal thing but these are one of the few that i really like to see on a mk1 and really make the car IMO. Better start looking at the eibachs then - i know when i was looking for my 200sx i know they had two types, one of which had a lower ride height. I wonder how that will compare against these springs....
  21. OK just thought i would post back with the outcome... Quite sought after Lorber "JDM Yo" 15" x 7" ET33 on 195/50/15 Yoko parada2's So far i've noted slight better grip but this must be down to the tyre. But i have noticed a tiny tiny amount of the sharpness lost on the turn in - once its there it feels very much the same - if not a bit more positive but again i put this down to the rubber. The WiM springs have served me well but i think the shocks may be close to the end so time for a complete change... Was looking at eibachs and KYB AGX possibly. Just wondering if with the eibachs i can get her perhaps a smidgeon lower than she is but retain a half decent ride. Cheers Steve
  22. It's reliable/accurate enough for my needs I put air in from the garage or foot pump and adjust when tracking it and thats it. If I know I've got around 32psi in the tyres I am confident enough in the gauge that it will show an accurate drop as I bleed the air out. Its worked ok for me without going too mad chasing absolute accuracy. It's draper generally you can trust that it's good gear IMO
  23. A couple of ones that have saved me : Easy outs - snapped a bolt in the rocker cover - came out a treat and saved me a load of hassle 1/2" Breaker bar - Makes things so much easier when undoing nuts on shocks and suspension components Magnetic tray and a magnetic telescopic picker upper thing - for when you drop that critical nut or bolt deep into the engine bay. And some everyday bits are WD40, Duct tape, and some disposable gloves to save a fortune in swarfega and bollockings when i wreck the hand towels and stink the kitchen out
  24. Close but its this one http://www.ebay.co.u...=item3f0d140e5c I love draper kit - good quality
  25. I got a draper analogue one with a bleed valve built in. Its accurate when compared against the local garage air machine which is digital, and its superb when on track days for adjusting pressures quickly. I'd be lost without it given the old girl is a bit picky with her shoes
