  2. That's scary!! If i were Bazza i would consider myself very lucky not to have a bag of soot right now. How the car didn't catch fire is anyone's guess... anyone for a barbeque

  5. looks like the private test track will come into use so kind of the council to build it right next to me
  6. as far as i believe traction plays a major part in drifting little or no traction means little or no control and the whole concept of drifting is control think of ice skating without ice skates on !
  7. mintex 1144 on new discs Isn't the 1144 a domestic pad compound? Is this wise on your track car. they are designed for hard road use and track with no great warm up times i am no great track experienced driver so they should suit
  8. mintex 1144 on new discs
  9. seems to be various discussions on bedding new pads/discs in what is considered the best/right way most say over a distance, but what if the car generally isnt a road car and only used on tracks ??
  10. yes and a wheel fitment guide make sure they are watermarked as every ebayer will be knicking them
  11. Very slow at the moment I'm sorry to say. We got a late start on it today due to some issues with Daves car, so we're in the process of installing the boost controller etc. We definately won't be doing any tuning today unfortunately, but it should be OK for Tuesday (no dyno time available tomorrow) I had hoped that we would be finished by now so I'm sorry for any inconvenience no worries Mark been slumming it in an escort van all week but got the zaf back today so at least i am back to a turbo under foot
  12. ahem ! back to the topic in question .......whats the latest ?
  13. Does she make nice tea? its to die for ..................................and i probably will when she reads this :rolleyes_anim:

  15. Excellent news Mark Does this mean Barrie won't be doing the gardening this weekend Since the car has been away he has discovered he has green fingers (and thats not just because he has a cold ) Hopefully it'll be a return to black fingers again this weekend (can't beat abit of grease under the finger nails) blimey i was hoping to get some pansies planted this weekend :graduated: all sounds good Mark,

  21. .......im grinning again
  22. I must admit it is and has been very rewarding, I am not a mechanic so everything has been a learning process from the start i wanted to do everything myself, the complete opposite to the lexus project it started of as a cheap project, but as allways costs and dreams escalate somewhat out of control, the joy is wanting to do things rather than having to, its great when theres no timescale and no rush the best part of it all is when someone passes a compliment, i tend to grin from ear to ear (thanks mat)
  23. thought a few here might be interested in my Toyota GT turbo and its progression over the last 18 months car was brought from an importer and had arrived fresh from Japan started off as a very standard 1.3 turbo running a factory 130 bhp (fly figures) standard boost was switchable between 0.3 and 0.6 bar the first stage saw : WEPR 2.5" stainless exhaust (additional silencer has now been fitted due to being blooming loud) WEPR decatted downpipe Supra fuel pump Sard fuel regulator HKS fcd on a dyno run at Janspeed, power at the wheels recorded at 130bhp and 122 ft/lb torque second stage saw the handling sorted : D2 fully adjustable coilovers White line anti lift plates Whiteline camber bushes Whiteline adjustable panhard rod Cusco rear strut brace Cusco ARB (front) And the all important geometry set up by W.I.M Third stage saw rubber : the original 14" wheels being shod with toyo r888`s a new set of 15" wheels shod with toyo t1r`s fourth stage moved to the interior : HKS boost gauge HKS water temp gauge Greddy egt gauge Greddy oil temp gauge Greddy oil pressure gauge HKS turbo timer Corbeau bucket seats Willans harnesses partial (if its not needed strip it) strip out air con removed Roll cage (1/2) Momo leather steering wheel Quick shift lever fifth stage saw: HKS actuator Greddy e-manage WEPR front mount intercooler Bailey dump valve 8.5mm Magnecor leads NGK iridium plugs Apexi Excedy organic clutch Replacement of air and water pipework with silicone Civic type R radiator mapped to run at 1 bar Dyno run by TDI, power at wheels recorded at 159bhp and 160 ft/lb torque All running nicely trips around the Nurburgring, and Santa Pod where it was running 14`s then i got bored !! sixth stage begins : Hybrid ct20 turbo WEPR Freeflow manifold External wastegate (0.95 bar) WEPR Downpipe WEPR Screamer pipe Serck oil cooler and filter relocator WEPR radiator Sard thermostat HKS blow off valve HKS EVC boost controller Braided brake lines Mintex 1144 pads 3g groovy discs Fog lights removed !! Over exuburance with flourescant green paint ! Presently residing at TDI for removal of Greddy E-manage and the fitment of HKS f-con and awaiting further details a few pics here http://bazzasgallery.fotopic.net/c1012148_1.html a few more pics here http://bazzasgallery.fotopic.net/c988310.html
  24. noooo ...................he is far too good looking for that, ..............................deserves far worse he didnt mention what happens when you are limited by wheel size went for grooved and dimpled , little bit of function and they look pretty Thanks! I think... if the disc diameter is limited then you've got 2 options ..... 1. make the pad and the disc out of materials which will continue to operate properly even when extremely hot (think Porsche style silicone carbide disc's and ceramic pads) 2. make the disc wider. The more disc material there is in total then the larger it's thermal capacity. A bit like a large body of water, steel has a latent heat capacity so for a certain time governed by it's mass it'll absorb energy and not actually increase in temperature. This is of course making the huge assumption that the problem you have is that your brakes are over heating. If the problem is simply insufficient friction that can easily be sorted by selecting an appropriate pad compound, for example the ultra aggressive carbon metallic that Jon runs. Remember F1 cars run on 13" rims and can pull 4.5g in a braking moment, aanndd keep that up for 1.5hrs, so wheel size is no real excuse I'm afraid...... money however is a good excuse opted for the mintex 1144 pads with braided hoses and new discs, hopefully should feel some benefit and yes i will go for the optional money excuse
  25. noooo ...................he is far too good looking for that, ..............................deserves far worse he didnt mention what happens when you are limited by wheel size went for grooved and dimpled , little bit of function and they look pretty Yeah.. surely the smaller disk will be rotating faster allowing more friction..... despite the smaller surface area. The down side would be the venting so adding drills seems logical to me....? surely disc speed is governed by the speed of the vehicle/wheels/etc the bigger disc would mean more frictional area allowing lower temperature build up supposidly grooves allow temperatures to disperse hopefully lowering them A missing question was why did you feel the need to up-grade the friction? was a need in wanting to be able to stop with upgraded power the brakes are starting to get jealous Poxy brakes.... you did the right thing.... Jealousy has no home when the powerhouse is in charge..... Sorry Jon Couldn't resist thats a bit naughty janey
