  1. I guess it could have been intentional, to me it looked like a rookie mistake of not checking his mirrors (the guy in front). I agree there 100% Tony, besides that there was overlap going into the corner, by default he had to make room surely? It certainly wasn't the passers fault. He had the advantage due to an offline incursion. I guess you could argue that the offline guideline wasn't in effect going into the next corner, but the passer had the overlap so he had to give room regardless.
  2. Yep, guy didn't check his mirrors. Someone you know?
  3. I would say it's one of the best the USA have to offer. It doesn't have a lot of trackside ammenities like a course you would see here like Silverstone, but the track is decent. The racing looked like fun, that's for sure! Looked like at 1.59 he connected with the other driver?
  4. As a general rule if you do not use more than 1qt per 1k miles there is nothing to worry about. This is the spec most manufactures work to for oil consumption before they start investigating a consumption issue. That being said... have you done any high revving or loading lately? That tends to lead to oil consumption. If it's not leaking it's being burnt. Bad rings can cause it, bad valve seals. There are ways to find out the culprit if it's bad enough. But I wouldn't worry about it. A bad PCV valve can increase consumption too. As long as you are not burning 1qt every thousand miles you don't usually have anything to worry about =) In my car I go through a qt every 3k miles or so.
  5. Yup! Love it! I think this is what's missing in many people's life today, discipline.
  6. I grew up about 2 hours from the track. When I got my SRT I was able to drive the whole SRT line-up during an SRT experience the car came with, including the Viper I wasn't able to drive the Viper on the coarse, they stuck us on a gokart track.. still managed 70+MPH. Was able to drive the Charger SRT8, Crossfire SRT6, and Magnum SRT8 on the course. Was hitting 135+ before mashing the brakes for Canada Corner. At the time there was a bridge on what is now called Bill Mitchell Bend. That corner was crazy, you couldn't see a thing, the corner dropped off past the apex you had to turn in and pray you had the right angle and speed to not shoot into the grass on the other side, loved it! We were doing 90+ around the Carousel. With the banking it had that was an experience! At the end they had us in with an instructor while he did a hotlap with the Viper. We hit nearly 160MPH before Canada Corner  That was something else. I will remember that day forever I think.
  7. Looks like you will have some fun =O Don't think that taillight wiring looks too dodgy. Not much else you can do when you try to splice into wiring. Infact that's probably the best way to splice into wiring. You can get mechanical clips, but soldering is always the best way.
  8. I used to race 'simulators' pretty hardcore a few years ago. I will putting in probably 20 hours a week. We would race once a month and then the race would be edited and turned into a broadcast. Supposedly we had 100k people downloading the races from Korea... but I'm not convinced. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=_IgjvSE6pS8 Watch around 10:30 You want to stay away from 'simulators' like Forza and GT5. They are glorified arcade racers with many of the calculations 'fudged' so they can make room for processing graphics. The collision detection is about something I would have expected from a proper marketed simulator about 10 years ago. IRacing is where it's at IMO. Downside is it's expensive. I played 'Live for Speed' (not to be confused with 'Need for Speed'). GTR series is ok, but it was still arcady for me. I think with any of these though its how you approach it. I had a force feedback wheel with a BRD speed7 pedal setup. The pedals had springs in them to make them 'feel' like the real thing. You didn't get the feedback into the brake pedal you had to rely on the FF wheel and the sounds to tell you were locking up, but all in all it was 'ok'. As computers up their processing power you will have more and more realistic simulators. The one I played simulated the suspension movements and the tire contact patch as well as damage. (the geometry would deform when you made contact with something). There comes a point every simulator will 'fudge' the maths on calculating out contact patches, partly because not enough is known, but more the case is that the calculations just cannot be done fast enough to provide a 'realistic' feel. It's how you approach it. I don't think you can learn too much on car behaviour, maybe some of the basics. IMO they are a good tool if you plan on hitting trackdays so you know when to turn left and turn right and a good rough guess on what speed you can carry through a corner. Key word is ROUGH! I agree Tony! You can buy motion simulators, but if you have £10k to plop down on a simulator surely you have enough cash to put together an MX5 and race in the MX5 cup series for a year? I think what simulators can do, if you get into the right league, is to simulate some of the mental pressures that are on a driver. Hitting those lines every corner, defending your position, how to attack. The cars do not behave exactly right, but everyone is on a level playing field, if you pair up with a competent driver you can learn a lot about how to cope with some of the mental pressures that come with racing. It barely scratches the surface to the real thing IMO, but could be a good start point for someone if they are coached. Wouldn't have helped this kid though that's for sure. He thought the real thing was an arcade game so he'd have no chance.
  9. Go Pro for sure IMO. They make all sorts of stuff you can mount to a car... both inside and out. I agree Adam =(
  10. Yeah he went to knife the tire, he didn't think that truck tires are pumped to 100psi +

  20. Not cool, is what happens when you don't pay attention. Kid didn't have a clue, look at how he sits up on the wheel with his body away from the seat and how he holds the wheel near the top. They got lucky.
  21. The low profile jack he's using can get under just about anything that is streetable. They will still need contact pads for hoists to use, though I think you are right manufacturer's are making it harder for DIY'ers. My sills are shot from having to use jack/stands on the pinch welds, though that's more to do with where I live more than anything. They need to make a stand that will work someplace else besides the sills.
  22. Boo, always thought a charger in the MX5 would be good! RWD... Smooth powerband... TORQUE! Maybe 2 mice instead of 1 but hey. There anything out there for the MX5's for superchargers?
