    S2000 Geometry

Does Tony or any WIM member have any experience of S2000 geometry. I know the suspension setup is prone to seizing and I know Honda have released revised values for the S2000 for better handling, is their a recommended safe setup for this car as I know the rear-end can be a bit wayward on these cars if not setup correctly or earlier models. I've got a friend with an S2000 and he's a bit concerned as he's acquired one second hand.
  2. Your settings look wild, here were my first batch of settings after Tony had a look. Take mind, mine is a MK2 MX5 and these settings have been tailored by myself and another club member. AFTER: Front (L/R) Camber: -0.29/0.30 Caster: -5.36/5.29 Toe: 0.8/0.7 Rear (L/R) Camber: -1.18/-1.20 Toe: 1.1/1.1
  3. TDi are just showing off now. !!
  4. Not a single MX5 engine.....I'm going to cheat and show you a really lovely engine from our club MX5 Nutz - Jay (aka Blackbullet) has put SO MUCH work into this - it nearly won best Mazda at JAE2006. The setup is an FM2 Turbo Kit.

    MX5

From memory there is no way you can do that. I gave my old MK2 springs to my friend and they fitted them the wrong way round and the car did not look right at all. Tony - why not contact Phil Dixon at Performance 5 (he knows about you as I raved about my geo after you did my car) he's very up on suspension installs - his contact details can be found at http://www.performance5.com You could drop him an e-mail at mobile@performance5.com (no attachments) He's a top bloke, and shares the same approach to customer service that you do.
  6. My friend has a Rover 25 GTI with 133,000 miles on the clock and it appears he's suffering from some problems in regards to tyre wear and slow punctures. It appears 1) The car always seem to suffer a slow puncture (now it does have alloys) and I know that some alloy wheels can go south in someway and start to corrode and let air out. 2) It seems to be getting through tyres at an alarming rate, it can't be 7000 miles since he changed them last. He's not a mad driver but (sorry to sound rude) he's also very brake happy and not that skilled (but this should not affect tyre wear) Any ideas on the geo with these cars, any issues? Im trying to persuade him to get over to Tony but he's a complete "let them do it and I don't care about the car" kinda guy.
  7. I don't think we can get him in. It's a great film - if you get a chance go and watch it - it's aimed at Mid-Americans really but it's also aimed at Petrolheads! I might be able to lend you one of my backup copies. when I next see you.
  8. Ahh hold on - my dodgy image linking going wrong again.... I mean it's a racecar - plus during the film it jumps using it's suspension to get over a crash I mean that can't be good for it's setup! Just a bit of fun!!
  9. This car needs it's geo doing. I'm sorry but I couldn't resist.
  10. I try to use (when I can find the damn things) the Ford Probe/Mazda MX6 V6 engine filters on my car. Can't do no harm - I'm not sure the tuning guys at TDi will agree but can bigger mean safer/better!?
  11. It's a month on and I visited Tony yesterday and met a fellow MK3 owner while I was there. Well we found the problem, I've got the results on me and it appears that the front left and rear right were way off, a lorry hitting you does not help matters, it tottally messed with the geometry on the car. The car is "planted" and I mean "uber planted" Im dead chuffed with Tonys great service, nice work!!
  12. I stil remember going to a "static" Reading meet and some scooby having this kit chucking huge flames, plod pulled him but only asked him to turn it off.
  13. Bloomin Public Transport - I'll book in for a later slot, then I'll make it....GRRR!! Will see you soon Mr B
  14. I went to open day hosted by a MX5 Tuning Company and I spotted Dazzaspeed in action, although it was an auto-testing course watching this guy in action was a real hoon to watch, I wasn't sure if he was after a time or he was really enjoying himself. My colleagues over at MX5 Nutz managed to catch some action, unfortunately not of Dazza (WELL we couldn't see through the smoke!!) Me on a passenger rude Some video action of my good friend John G now known as John Q John G in Action More photos here...
  15. I never experienced this when running the Toyos, so I ruled that one out.
  16. In order of being asked: 1) Tony - no the steering does not reply when off throttle, no diffuser. 2) Yes 3) Stock Mazda psi is 26 - I run them at 28-29 for better turn in.
  17. http://video.google.com/videoplay?docid=74...99094&q=mx5 I like it, not sure you will. Some nice car control
  18. Some problems with the old car at the moment: 1) It's been back from the bodyshop after a small (cosmetic only) accident (30mph) impact - a new bonnet, wing, headlight, bumper was required - the car has been fine since the accident when I was running on Toyo T1R's. 2) I've recently bought some Goodyear Eagles GSD3 F1's and under acceleration or high speed, it feels like the front end is getting light, I never had this with the Toyos. Does anyone have any theories??? The turbo was fitted before the Goodyears and there was no front end lightness with those tyres. I will admit the tyres were not fitted by STS Stapletons but a company called "Bracknell Tyre and Battery" they did not touch the geometry, just weighted and balanced the wheels. The only other change was moving from outer wheel weights to inner wheels weights. Im booked in for a session with Tony this Tuesday from around 2pm so he can look at the problem
  19. Interesting reading Tony, I know a few are interested in moving over to these settings. I having a look into these but Im very happy with mine at the moment.
  20. Ahh this is an interesting one. My Dad owns a bone stock OEM Hyundai Sonata 3.0 V6 which goes ok, he's not a modder by heart just an old school mechanic who knows his stuff but it's hard to teach an ex-mechanic the new discoveries I've made about geometry. He feels (hard to explain) that the either springs/dampers maybe proving a problem on his car, and I've said Tony should take a look at it as I reckon it could be geometry related. I don't want to upset him by patronising him but I want to help him without insulting his current knowledge of cars, even if some of it is slightly misinformed, I suppose it's like treating a doctor in his own hospital, but he worked in that hospital 20 years ago.
  21. Its OK Dan, Tony is right, Im currently running Toyo T1R's on 15 inch alloys. The 16 inch alloys are a project of mine, I need to get them refurbed first, but wanted to know where Im going with the tyres first that's all. Thanks for all your help, see you tomorrow Tony (if you can make sure you call me a half hour before - my diary is so full of stuff I bound to forget something tomorrow)
  22. Well Im into see you on Wednesday at about 4pm for the checkup. I'll grab a quote on some F1's while Im there.
  23. Although I've just scanned this post. Setting up an MX5 with stiffer bars has provided some good/bad feedback from owners (well the ones who know how to drive) I decided against it as I've seen some horrible results in contrast to some great results. One owners got his MX5 lowered onto the same setup as mine (stiff FM Springs on KYB AGX shocks), bolted on some stiffer rollbars, dialled in Lanny Settings, and urrrr put his 5 in a ditch, he says diesel on the roundabout (fellow driver and good friend of his says driver skill) yet other owners have said they are a better mod than uprating the suspension. Further conversations with a Performance Mechanic who carries out this mods for owners suggests that breakaway is less progressive than under normal sways, there's even people in the states that remove the sway bars completely! So without really coming to a conclusion, that's ummm my urrr feedback.
