  1. Parts have arrived! So all set for tomorrow. Since having the initial check on the ramps I think a couple of the camber bolts needed an extra nip as I get a clunking when pulling out quickly from a junction and then braking afterwards. Had it on the S2000 and they needed another quart turn so stop the clunking but sure it will all get sorted tomorrow. Just need the bloomin sun visors to turn up now. First day of sun in a whilst on my way in today and I couldn't see a thing. Who'd take a pair of sun visors of a car!? Never even noticed that on the test drive
  2. And that makes sense. As the shocks get older I guess they slow down on the damping and don't work to the best of the springs. Ill probably hold of for some decent coilovers. Kind of handy having a jacked up MX5 in this weather Roll on tomorrow when its going back in that's all I can say, Been driving on tenderhooks since Monday!
  3. I'm vastly under driving it as it has cheap tyres on and a duff rear wishbone. Don't fancy a closer inspection of a crash barrier or hedge I had one back in 2004 (1.8i) which was done with Eibachs, set of lightweight 15's and Toyo Proxies and it was brilliant! So with the help of WIM I need to get this one to that stage again. What are the WIM springs for the MX5?
  4. HI Joe All ordered. New OSR lower wishbone, lower ft long bolt and 2 new adjuster bolts. Should be here Thursday latest so I'll give you call to get it booked in. Hopefully we can make it Saturday?
  5. Indeed as above. The one I looked at was being sold as water tight as it was from a smart indy. But I just didn't get on with it. The gear change was too slow. Too much lag on the turbo. Very mechanical sounding inside and lastly too harsh a ride for 45 miles a day. But the MPG is amazing and the ability to take the roof of was a plus however the MX5 easily pipped it (even with a dodgy alignment set up!) Just awaiting on the WIM chaps getting it booked back in for part replacement and set up again
  6. Thanks Rich - mailed over
  7. Hmm I can only see add/preview or cancel. No browse option. Do I need to be a gold member? I had the car HPI'd before handing the money over and all clear on that front. Likely its hit a massive pot hole or had a bump off a kerb Pete reckoned. Can you see the Geo results that were recorded yesterday Tony?
  8. So after a whirlwind weekend where the Corolla got bought by a family member, I took a day off to find another car quickly for running to and from work. Test drove a Smart Roadster Coupe and an MX5. Choice was between the two. Absolutely could not get on with the Smart to plumped for the MX5! Picked up a 99 1.8is with 75k on the clock. Owner didn't really know a great deal about the car but after having one 10 years ago I knew a little but it did have: 1. Full service history 2. A years MOT 3. 9 months Tax No cabin leaks and a small mark on the bonnet. Standard wheels have been swapped for 14's for some reason. All decent tread tyres but there are what I would call ditchfinders. Avent and Nokian's? After 45 minutes of having it, I phoned up WIM and got it straight up onto the ramps for an inspection and Geo. Pete had a good look over and came back with some alarming figures. Basically its never been done so there was a sea of red everywhere. He pulled in what he could to ensure it was driveable but looks like it needs a new rear control arm to pull the drivers side into tolerance so waiting on the chaps getting back to me about that then it can be Geo'd fully. Car was also missing the sun visors so second hand ones ordered for a tenner Have a few images of it but not sure how to upload if anyone can advise!
  9. Would be game over for me if I did that.
  10. Fresh as a daisy my friend Other half is happy. Found the offending shoes with spatters of the remains so they are getting the Jeyes treatment next!!
  11. All sorted!! £30 lighter from Halfords and a load of elbow grease. Detol cleaned the whole carpet, turtle wax shampooed the carpets and seats. Air con cleaner for 20 minutes and aired the car whilst it dried. No more turnip smells in the car! Last car we had cat pee went over the interior after the moggies box tipped over when he had wee'd in it. The smell never went from that and it got sold so I'm very happy this has been resolved as we like this car!
  12. Morning! Went away on Monday in the wifes car and stopped off at Greggs to grab a couple of pasties before the journey. Got back into the car and after 20 mins on the motorway we started to get a wet dog smell in the cabin. It was raining heavy so I put it down to the country air and the wet conditions. Next morning pulled the car round from its parking space at the hotel and there was an actual plop and smothered plops all over the car mats on the drivers side. Looks like I trod in something at my stop to Greggs and it was now in the car! Long story short after lots of cursing I threw the car mats out, Dettol cleaned the pedals and any interior my foot may have gone near. Got in her car last night and its foul! The smell is even worse now! Could the smell have gotten round the air con system (we use full auto 20 degrees etc etc all the time) Any tips on getting rid? Aircon cleaners? Any one ever wet vac'd a car before and where can I go to get it done? How long does a full wet vac take?
  13. Didn't you get a 3 month warranty on the car? Perhaps you could try using this to get the problem diagnosed and fixed... I certainly would be before spending any of my own cash.
  14. So do I just start a new thread up with this car under my username now then

    AP Coilovers

They seem to have quite good driver reviews from the MINI forums but I don't want to be servicing/replacing... shame as they were priced very competitively. What would be another good alternative? WIM did the Teins on my old STI which were pretty good but no idea on the pricing or even if they do a MINI application

    AP Coilovers

Hi Tony/Chaps Has WIM ever had any experience of AP Coilovers? Looking to possibly purchase a brand for the MINI and AP seem to be coming out at a reasonable price. Never fitted them before to any car so not sure on the quality/rates etc. I don't want something bouncier than I have at the moment but would like it to sit lower and handle better. Manufacturer part I was looking at was: GF20-070 Any info appreciated
  17. Let me know if you get the reader...curious into what readings you get and what info can be gathered from the ecu. Oh and there's nothing wrong with 1.6's
  18. Thats a shame it didnt work out as I was planning a trip up there soon... Milton Keynes has some good roads for a MINI
  19. Does the car have coilpacks or leads? Is there a lambda sensor on it anywhere? Where are your o2 sensors? And is there more than one? Running through some cleaner will help as will a filter mentioned above but it would be worth checking the voltage on the sensors if you can. I am looking to get a wifi OBD reader hooked up on mine so if it gets sorted maybe we could plug into yours and "probe" your sensors if you can find out what the default range should be. 22mpg seems silly low for the type of car. Its not heavy and its not a large engine. I would expect 28-30 average with mid 30's on a run. That's certainly what my old type-r did. The S2000 averaged 31mpg over the time I had it and that was worked hard!
  20. 205/45/17 to make it read slightly under, although this is a weird size and prices tend to be high. Tell me about it...these are the size the MINI takes. Crazy difference between a 205/40 and 205/45!
  21. Car is running great! Much more improved. Confidence in the bends and the power can get down in the first two gears The poor old geo settings didn't help with the stability of the car either according to the chaps. So much quieter. Joe let me know about the old run flats as discussed
  22. It'll be worth it. Hated how the RFT's make the car drive. Its hard to explain unless you drive one with them. Excellent turn in, but traction is crap, noisey, you feel every bump, they are expensive, tramlining, light steering, no confidence in the bends as the tyres just snap when they go. This is of course IMO and a lot of other MINI owners over on TM. There are clearly huge benefits in them, but nothing a can of tyre repair, compresser and a AA membership wont cover off. I read up on reviews before making the choice Hopefully get enough to cover the Geo!
  23. Going with the sport contact 3's and a geo tomorrow. It'll be a slow drive up on the a41! I'll keep the three good tyres and flog them on as they still have tread on them.
  24. I've had it 5 months... that was a long time for me to wait! Factory Works cat back.
