  1. Check your CV joint first.......try full lock in reverse gear.
  2. Yes, as I typed I wondered about that, makes pefect sense as the outer hole is just for the centre cap of course......why the hell did they not make the dyes clamp up to the inner surface? Oh well.....that would be too bloomin' obvious I suppose I remember my 2CVs had solid centres (as near as damn'it) and had problems getting anyone to balance those.
  3. Hmm interesting, I was under the impression that the centre hole was the locating position as in "hub centric" and that the wheel was centralised by the hub spigot otherwise all the lateral force loading is taken on the wheel stud/bolts not a good idea as they are designed obviously for linear clamping force. Not sure any of my local tyre places will have heard of a wheel nut/bolt centralising jig for thier balancers! The premier tyre supplier around this way appears to be Supertyres in Maldon as they are the place all the high cost motor dealers take the vehicles to (Ferrari/Masser/AM etc etc) and I am not sure they use that device either! I am going to ask though. If not it appears I might be in for a long drive just to get my wheels balanced Thanks for the tip Tony.
  4. Had this problem for a while now, its been through wheel balances, new set of tyres and wheels being swapped around. Its a Mk1 RX300 running Mk2 18" wheels. When I first bought it I had the wheels balanced and geometry checked (4 wheel) and it was adjusted slightly on alignment but nothing serious was amiss. I get a slight steering wheel shimmy/wobble at around 70mph, it almost never manifests below that speed and it can be driven through but only at a much higher speed. Wheel balancing never seems to eliminate it just move it around a bit, it has not got any worse over the period I have owned the vehicle (3yrs+ 45K), its just been this annoying underlaying vibration. Odd thing is sometimes it appears to dissappear, for example cruising along at 75mph perfectly happily then maybe a bit of slowing down then accel again and it suddenly appears at that same speed! It just sailed through its DoT test but I did get one advisory on the steering rack bushes being a bit worn, now I would have thought that was the cause it would have gradually got worse and worse over the three years. ???
  5. Just what you want for a 4x4 Wot? And get mud and dirt over my deep pile carpet and cream leather interior! Ain't a Landi 110 yer'no!
  6. Hi Tony, nope....afaik, the Conti UHP is standard equipment on the likes of BMW X5 and VW/Porsche Cayenne, not a RF version or anything special. I guess the Conti is better quality (maybe?) and the Falken better price of course, I just don't want to buy a set of Falken's and find the are a set of ditch finders Best regards David
  7. I'll check Black, round and sticky please!
  8. Any 255/55x18 ???????? Best regards David
  9. I have been searching the tests on the web and only found ONE reply in usage which is more than glowing (something I am always wary about ) These are extremely good value compared with Conti UHP that I have been considering, the Conti I am sure will be grippy but worried a little about ride comfort, the Falkens always seems to come out weel for comfort.....I am presently running Pirelli Scorpion STR which I am very pleased with, but feel a change coming on.... Any comments, experiences with these tyres please? Best regards David BTW...size I am looking at will be 255/55x18 oops.....STZ01.......no "X" in there
  10. That's interesting but surely it defeats the point of them being directionals...they must have been designed this way for a reason? The reason is water dispersion.....the tread design was a development from the F1 teams requirements.....
  11. I remember when GM launched the Lotus Carlton at the Geneva show, I was there pre press day during preperations.....they wheeled this secret covered carlton in set it up on the stand (only the fitters, dogs bodies and GM knobs there) they uncovered it to polish and fettle the finish....when I noticed it had directional tyres.....I pointed out to the knobs they were fitted wrongly.....and as I was filming and standing there cameras in hand at the time.....you never saw a car wheeled away so fast!
