  1. Intriguing question....

1: The longest set-up was five hours and only two angles involved (front camber) this was on a 4x4 that needed shims fitted.... everything was seized... bent....then broke, nightmare.

2: The best to set are Japanese cars. Most times they are naturally adjustable in 3D.... totally compliant so very satisfying to someone like me who must have it correct or it bothers me personally. If i cannot achieve the desired set-up on any car i take it personally... Probably not the most healthy attitude since the non-compliance is not my fault but i hate to fail!

3: German? I love the cars but hate the setting parameters. This involves the amount of fuel in the tank and all other fluid levels... things like floor mat positions and even the spare wheel and tool box need to be in place... Geometry is theoretical enough without adding these requirements.

    There is a 4

4: The non-adjustable car... Lets say a Fiesta with inner front tyre wear. Simple diagnostics is not satisfying and most times it's possible to realise the problem without even measuring the car.

5 hours! You have the patience of a saint then!

I can understand you don't like to fail, you can tell you are passionate about your job and whenever you've worked on my car you always make sure the job is done properly. You get alot of respect from me for that, I know a couple of people who like to bodge a job when it comes to cars, hence I don't ask them for help anymore!

I'm assuming you are be sarcastic about German motors? Does the amount of fuel in the tank make that much difference? The number of beemers I've seen with funny rear camber is unbelievable though!

Never realised there were cars that couldn't be adjusted. Be interesting to take a fiesta to kwik fit etc and ask them to sort the geometry out and see what they say! :thumbsup_anim:

  2. Now we all know you have alot of experience when it comes to setting a cars geometry and I'm just curious to know which car;

    1. Took you the longest to set and why?

    2. Which is your favourite car to set and why?

    3. Which car do hate/dislike setting and why?

  3. Looking very good :rolleyes_anim:

Surprising how dropping it even 30mm can make all the difference. I've recently dropped mine on Eibach springs, very impressed so far :thumbsup_anim:

Yes, that is quite unexpected. I had done a drop on my previous Mit VRM and that caused a lot of complaints from my wife for the 'hard' ride. Eventually I had to switch back to stock springs. I think Eibach must have done it right.

Did you experience any further spring settlement since installation? Any geometry adjustment since then?

    TK Chan

Yes I've noticed that as well the ride hasn't changed that much, if anything feels slightly better. A mate of mine has a Civic Tyre R and the ride on standard springs is horrible!

I don't have the same car as you but I haven't noticed any difference in the height since I first put them on but then I have only done 600 miles on them. Tony did a geometry after they were fitted, the front was way out but then I had taken everything else off. The mondeo doesn't have adjustable camber so I think it was only the toe that was adjusted.

  4. How about: WWW.wheels_inmotion.co.uk

Straight to the point and in different sizes for the w/screen and smaller ones for my quarter lights on the rear doors. :thumbsup_anim:

In fact i will get mine made up and stick em on me car. :thumbsup_anim:

    Isn't that what I've been saying! :rolleyes_anim:

You don't need the www as everyone who's computer literate knows that has to go first, plus I think it looks better that way! :thumbsup_anim:

  5. For research what would you suggest is said on the stickers?

Well you obviously need to URL which would take quote abit of space on it's own. I personally think this would be sufficient enough as anyone who is curious will come onto the site to find out more. If you start adding anything else it could distract people from the message you're trying to get across; the URL. Unless you're planning on making them fit the whole rear window! :)

    How about this -

    wheels-inmotion.co.uk

    Or

    WIM YOUR WHEELS

    wheels-inmotion.co.uk

  6. Can you get them from a forum for your car. With quite a few cars the standard wheels are cheap as people like to upgrade.

Yeah when they are available and too be honest even the standard ones are sought after.

I spent ages looking for some ST24 ones and got these in the end. Then someone put some up for sale!

Was gonna put me new grooved discs on the weekend as well, not much point now can't see them through steelies!! :thumbsup_anim:

  7. God damn it the rears are ET20!!!! That's a 15mm difference :)

Looks like someone has tried scratching the numbers off as well :)

Confirms why I was weary about lowering it at the rear anyway and the clearance between the tyre and arch,

So the rears are ET20 and the fronts are ET35 and ET27. This is the 3rd set of wheels I've had fitting problems with now and this has definiately put me off buying from ebay again unless I can see them first.

Plus to top it all off one of the rear tyres has started bulging so swapped it for the spare which is a different size so gotta take it easy :thumbsup_anim:

  8. They're compomotive.

My only worry is that both the rears are actually ET29. If they are I'm definitely getting rid of them, only problem is how do you sell wheels that have different offsets!! :sad01_anim:

    Same way you bought them....

True but I'm an honest guy, when I bought them I had to get one repaired as well as it was buckled slightly!

Think I will have to play dumb...

But what cars have wheels with a PCD 108 and ET29??

  9. Well seems there's been a few changes while I've been away! Here's my opinions...

I agree that Tony needs help with the cost of running the forum so I have no problem with paying a subscription fee.

As said above there are only a dozen or so members who regularly post and the majority of new members just want some advice, which is why they come here for help but don't stay once they have an answer. I can't see many people wanting to pay £15 if they have no intention of regularly posting as they could most likely get the advice from other forums or even post in the unlocked sections, which I'm sure would get answered anyway as we're a friendly lot :sad01_anim:

Forum wise I think both gold and platinum members should be given the same access rights. It seems abit unfair to charge for a gold membership but still restrict arcade use to 10 plays a day. If a fee has been paid then why restrict it?

As for the discount I feel this is aimed more at the members who have high powered jap motors etc. My car wouldn't have/need the kind of work done that TDI supplies or what the WIM shop offers. I'm assuming it won't include work carried out at STS? I wouldn't benefit from the discount and can't justify spending that much on a subscription fee for a forum.

The majority of other forums I've joined charge between £10-£15 so I think you need to offer something else to get people to join. If they get something for their money that they can actually own I think it will entice more people to join. One club I was with gave new members a welcome pack. This included a keyring, pen and URL sticker all with the club details on. Might have been cheap stuff but it was still good to receive it. I know this is more cost but even a URL sticker would give you more 'free' advertising and you can charge for additional ones. Have any of these ever been made before?

If WIM is going to grow then promoting the club more will probably regenerate more attention and as it's a specialist topic to the majority of people I think it will need it...

  10. That's what I don't get, you take your car in to get the problem diagnosed. Once the problem has been found and obviously they were told how damgerous it is, they just drove off and don't bother getting it fixed.

How much would that have cost, no more than 80quid I would've thought...

  11. i dont understand....if there the same wheels then how can thay have differant offsets???????????

Same patten different vehicle destinations.... Someone somewhere has!... Made a mistake.

Well I still need to check the rears to see what they are, if they're both ET35 then maybe who ever had them before me damaged one and replaced it with an ET29! Or it could be an ET35 but when manufactured it was stamped up wrong, but I suppose the chances of that are slim!

  12. Some people have no sense...I bet there was abit of play in that as well!!

Looking at the photo again I can't see how the ball joint could fall out unless the pinch bolt failed. But if that happens the ball joint can't fall out can it as the weight of the car would hold it in the hub? Unless you happen to go over a nasty pot hole or fly over a humped back bridge!!

  13. Bloody hell must've hit something pretty hard to cause that! :)

I'm always checking mine now especially since you pointed that bolt out to me!

What can happen if the whole ball joint comes away from the lower arm though, would it have the same affect as if the main bolts sheared and the arm comes out?

  14. Well like you said earlier I haven't had any problems but I'd be happier having the same offset wheels on the same axle, just to see if it does make a difference if anything.

I'll get the same brand tyres I got for the front and then change them around, I was going to put the ET35 wheels on the rear in case it drops any lower!! :)

  15. Ok so I decided to clean the car today and take the front wheels off to clean all the grease off from me split CV boots.

I took the OS off first and the stamp said ET35, which is what they're suppose to be and I checked one of them when I bought the wheels to make sure. Then I took the NS wheel off and clean it and that's when I noticed it said ET29!!!! :)

Now I've had the wheels on the car for a year and half with no problems. Car was drifting to the left but Tony said that was down to the tyres. I can't tell if the rears have the same offset as the difference is so small to visually see.

So assuming that 2 of my wheels are ET35 and the other 2 are ET29 and there's one of each on the same axle what problems could this cause? The drifting I get?

I can't change them over yet as the front tyres have only recently been changed and done 1000 miles. The rears only had about 2mm left so will be changing them soon. Should the ET35 be put on the front or rear, bearing in mind the recommended offset for my car is ET35 - ET42!

Something else to worry about now!! :)

  16. So if I put 185/60 on the front and the 185/65 on the rears that'll be ok, even with different tread patterns etc? As long as they've got plenty of tread they should pass?

Reason I'm asking is I bought some steelies for me escort which I need to get MOT'd before I sell. Standard wheels are 185/60 r14 but the ones I got are 185/65 r14 as they're off a mondeo. Trouble is 2 of them are almost on the indicator and worn on the edges.

  17. Just a quick question. I know you can have wider wheels on one axle compared to the other, but what about the height of the tyre?

For instance could I put 185/65 on the front and 185/60 on the rear? If you can will this pass an mot?
