  1. I take it that was a MK2, looks it?

As you know one of my captive nuts sheared along with the subframe bolt, had to go through the floor to get it out. I suppose I should get a new nut welded on but it's been fine the past 18 months. That's why I was dreading it when I thought me diff had gone and the frame would need dropping. Another reason I'm putting off doing the front ARB bushes cos if a bolt snaps it's probably gonna cost me! :thumbsup_anim:

The other 3 bolts were ok but were only hand tight. The bloke who sorted it for me put loads of locktite on them with no copper grease so I dunno what they'd be like to undo now! :thumbsup_anim:

  2. A very subjective topic. Technically replacing worn front tyres on a FDW with new tyres could lead the driver into an over-steer situation. So moving worn rear tyres to the front technically could calm the possibility.

In addition...... And this is between us. The fast fit industry see's this plausible explanation as an excuse to "balance" the rear wheels before they are fitted to the front! :thumbsup_anim:

I think it makes little difference since the additional tread depth only becomes valuable in the wet....

That's interesting...so why would they want to balance the rear wheels?

When I bought some tyres online and got them fitted at croxley tyres they didn't ask if I wanted the wheels swapped over. I asked for them to be fitted to the front and they did just that

  3. I can't edit me albums now, I click 'myalbums' and nothing happens! Can add photos to existing albums if I go into the gallery though...
I'm working on it mate, will have it fixed asap ! Have you tried editing your albums via the "My Controls" menu instead ?

Tried that and that seems to work ok! :thumbsup_anim:

  4. I always thought the new tyres went on the rear to prevent oversteer as they wouldn't of been scrubbed in.

TBH though I've never bothered doing that and have never had a problem. May be different for 4WD though? :thumbsup_anim:

  5. It's the same tyre before and after it went to the garage. This is why I got confused cos if there was a gap beforehand surely they would've seen it! Also they have said that both the fronts are like it, so it must be ok, just confused me cos they said there was no gap prior to the garage looking...

Is it just possible the tyre was under inflated before, so closing the gap?

Funny you mention that as it was actually over inflated, I think so anyway. 40psi on the fronts and 28psi on the rear. They haven't had the car long though and this is what the previous owner had put them at. They've now put the fronts on 32psi...

  7. They have problems with the car drifting to the left and the steering wheel is offset to the left.

I'm not sure what they did with the wheel and nor is the owner but they said since it came back from the garage it has had this gap.

I think there's a problem with the tyre, but the photo isn't very clear.

  8. Bit of an update -

Now I have me new wheels on I thought I'd visually compare the difference between the arch lip and the side of the tyre. There's doesn't seem to be much in it though. Now as the rears of the old wheels are stamped ET20 I thought the difference would be very noticeable. But there only seems to be about 5mm of difference. But they I also have to consider the fact the new rims are 7" wide, the old ones are 6.5" and the old tyres are 205, the new ones 215 :)

Anyway, now they're off the car is there a way I can measure the offset accurately with a tape measure?

They're going on fleabay tonight either way...
