Got some pattern arms delivered today. I can't move the ball joints by hand though, I have to tap them with a mallet...is this right?
Reason I ask is that the other pair of arms I bought last year the ball joint could be moved quite freely by hand!
Need to fit these by Monday and it's forecast rain all weekend, plus Ford don't have the bolts I need, can't get them until Tuesday now How many times can nylocks be reused?

Also do you know of anyone near sutton surrey (sm3) who could be trusted to do the alignment check/ adjustment.
Welcome to WIM...Sutton is only an hours drive to the new centre in Chesham. It might be worth visiting Tony for a checkup
-
I can imagine
-
Seems to be taking alot longer than you expected then
-
How's it coming along Tony, have they started the mezzanine yet?
-
Did it go ok or do you have a Frank Bruno nose now
Did nothing but rain the weekend so I didn't get the chance
Will be doing it Thursday so let you know...
Why?..... You were taking the steering wheel off not the roof
As I weren't gonna sit in front of the airbag when disconnecting it!!

What's the best way of checking? I usually jack one side up at a time and have the steering lock on. Should both wheels and the steering lock be off then?
Think I'll go get a new one and change it anyway

There is no play in the wheel when I checked 2 or 3 weeks ago, which is why I'd like to know how to check if they've seized or not? Is it just a case of popping the joint out and feeling how smoothly it moves?
-
Is there a specific way of checking these and do I need to remove it from the hub to do this?
What symptoms would I experience handling/steering wise if one has seized?
As the rubber around one of mine has been split for a good 6 months now I think I need to change it but want to check first
if its split change it.....simple as
Yeah I know I should but don't want to until Tony has opened the centre when I put me camber kit on. Just that I have a 300 mile drive in 2 weeks so wondering if I should stick one on for then

The link, image and email tags don't work but the quote and code ones do!
Just to add the above applies to IE and FF.
-
I use firefox and it doesn't work.
-
Any reason why these don't work? I'm getting fed up with having to type the tags out meself!
-
Ah the clock spring...yes I know about that
-
It says on the cd... The spiral cable (don't ask what that is) should not be allowed to rotate after the wheel is removed?
Other than that there is no information about the airbag...... Oh torque setting for the main nut is 50nm
Cheers
There's a few cables that are fed through a hole at the top of the wheel so maybe it's relating to that.
Will let you know how I get on!
-
There's also a fuse I need to remove which supplies the backup power for the airbag. I will be leaving it for a while don't worry and I'll stand outside the car when i unplug it!
-
I will give it ago and see what happens
Not looking forward to removing the airbag though!
you need to disable that mate
Yeah I know Leave the ignition off at least half an hour but I'll disconnect the battery as well

The hole in the wheel is hex shape. I'm assuming it will be ok then?
-
Is the column on the Mond symmetrical or hexagonal?
Err, how do you mean? If it's straight or at an angle?
What shape is the end of the column where the wheel mounts...... Is it a spline or 50p shape.
Ah right! I don't know and I'm at work so can't look at the new wheel I've got until the morning...

I've got a new steering wheel to fit. When I change it could I knock it off centre doing this or should I wait until I have the geometry done and fit it just before?
-
Coming along nicely now, once everything is done how long will it take to build the geo machine?

That's cool then If we get a dry spell over the weekend I'll change them and just swap the bolts later on
