  1. hes still at it then, I saw this one some time ago http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=LXO-jKksQkM
  2. think my girlfriend is a bit miffed, she spent ages trying to capture some huge dragonflies in Ludlow. They were in flight so almost an impossibility to focus on! that's a fantastic photo, next time i'll take a sprig of lavender!
  3. nope, its not getting weird, its essentially slowly evolving away from weird
  4. not too dissimular to its more scary well known cousin, just imagine making its face shallower and its not so drasticly different
  5. I love it when someone stumbles across in internet meme, bless him, hes been around for a little while now
  6. audi have made a few very good adverts in the last couple of years
  7. and all she needed to do was pull forward 3 foot or..... dare i say it..... use the pump on the otheer side!
  8. There have been a few recent films where the secondary camera has been a high end Nickon camera filming HD. With a large sensor and expensive high end lenses theres little reason to ignore them for camera crews, but of course there is more dedicated tech that can do things the dslr isnt designed for.
  9. I think it depends on what you are intending doing. The A58 is only as heavy as the cam corders I was looking at, but then I wanted something that was more than just a point and film video camera so not looking at the immediate entry level. As for price, I don't think that's the case at all any more. A few years ago maybe but right now, a 1080p video camera with decent anti shake, zoom and full set of features will set you back over £300, almost exactly the same as a 1080p capable dslr or slt camera. There are of course benefits in using a video camera, ergonomics for some people makes a strong argument, although you can buy a huge range of attachments to quash that argument. Another thing is filming time, my sony will only record 30 min chunks as the sensor generates heat while recording video, so its recommend that you give it a break in filming here and there. You of course are unlikely to continuously film for 30 min that often so filming in stops and starts like most of us do shouldn't effect it. Main benefit of the dslr over a handicam is the changeable lenses and adjustable settings, you don't get into that kind of technology with video cameras until much higher up the price range. Ive found filming a doddle on the Sony, but it is a brand new model, which might shine a good light for what manufacturers are going to produce in this next generation of equipment.
  10. Indeed, we use one at lugg valley archery. Works wonders but again not found anything exciting while looking for other arrows
  11. Theres a small rural market near us called Harry Tuffins, which has all sortes of pound shop things as well as the local produce.... suffice to say theres hours of silly fun to be had! yeh, been wanting a video camera for ages, been using my iphone as a stand in for some time but now i can get on with my youtubing with something a little better and more versatile ..... expect much more
  12. yes they do, so all my lens filters etc can be used in making both video and also photography. I think its called an A mount? On the A58 autofocus continues functioning while recording, check my metal detecting video i put up, its all on auto there.
  13. Miriams brother has a couple of metal detectors so we all went out for a walk in the field across from his house to have a little go. I was surprised how much fun it was and although we didnt find much of great interest it was kind of a good feeling knowing we had done a little bit for the environment by clearing up some random hunks of metal. I took our new Sony A58 with us to film some of the fun, found the mics resistance to wind wasnt that great but it does clearly pick up our voices very well at the volumes i heard them myself. I was also impressed with the image quality running on full auto, you can click the cog symbol on youtube to watch in HD and i have to say im loving this camera!
  14. I agree, this is why we ended up getting the A58 over a dedicated video camera. The A58 has both auto focus and manual and both are available in photo and video mode. The auto focus makes a mechanical sound which can be picked up by the cameras mic, sounds a little like a zap. So auto focus when so close to something isnt a great idea as it will blip in and out all the time, so for those videos i used the manual focus. Im looking to get an external mic, which wont pick up the mechanical noise so much but I also find manual focus much more useful when you want to frame a scene and focus on something that isnt central to the frame, which is where the camera auto focuses. With manual focus i can have someone walk from off camera into the frame and out the other side with them being in focus and the background out of focus.... like they do in the movies you cant do that with auto focus. Most dslr's have both manual and auto for video i believe.... unless of course ive stumbled into getting a camera that has features i thought all of them had!
  15. interesting you should mentions silicon wipers, Ive just changed mine as the last ones started to perish. I went from silicone wipers to some bosch universal aero flex and they seem to hop a little, which my last silicone ones didnt. Think the next time round i will go back to the last silicone ones i used
  16. Yeh thats the best bit, driving at 50-60 mph with no wipers when everyone else is frantically wiping theirs I didnt find that before using it, my screen would wipe but leave a smear of water and any water that fell on the screen between wipes would be really hard to see through. But with this on the screen all the water beads instantly, meaning you can see through or between the beads meaning more visabilty for that amound of rainfall. really hard to explain just what a difference this has made to my tired old pitted and scratched windscreen and i wouldnt be without it now!
  17. ah, that would make sense. We have a lot of moths around our house/garden. I was interested to see the entire plant covered in them but with such hot weather the next day many had dehydrated and passed away. Im hoping that some will last through and we catch some of the next stage in their process! thanks!
  18. My girlfriend and I had recently been looking to get a video camera and as some of the modern DSLR cameras shoot 1080p video i suggested we might treat ourselves to a new upgrade over my old Sony A200 dslr. Because of the kit i already had we found ourselves looking at the Sony A58 which is a 20mp photography camera and a full 1080p 50fps video camera. Ive been keen to get into video for some time and Miriam has been keen to be let loose with a camera she can see as her own for photography...... leaving me with my old trusty a200. She loves it and has been making great strides with her photography, she already has an artistic eye so its only an up hill struggle with technology to get the images she sees in her minds eye. Where im still trying to get the artistic bit, she is quite the opposite of me sometimes but anyway, heres a couple of videos just testing out the camera in the garden, anyone know what these little critters are and what they will turn into?
  19. Ive used the stuff for some time now but thought i would add a video i made briefly showing what it does and wondering if anyone has found anything that lasts longer or works better?
  20. yup.... that would make noises!
