Tomorrow was of course yesterday.....Are these good? Dunlop SP WINTER SPORT 3D 225/45 R17 94V XL with rim protection and I would prefer to get from you if possible..... I have since spoken with someone on the phone and am thinking of the vredstein wintrac 225/45/17 91v which seem better value-and am keen-keener still now on 19th december ( you may have noticed the weather since your last post Tony!!) to have some info and possibly fitting before I go away for xmas.

Tony, So far so good as far as brake balance is concerned -although I have a feeling the issue would not arise in normal road use- most of the brake gurus on the Golf Gti v and seat cupra.net forums suggest that the rears do relatively little and cope perfectly well with upgraded fronts. the issue with my car was that as an auto-dsg it has more need for brakes than the same car with a manual- never mind "using the gears to slow down" it just does not have the same lift off engine braking. As seat only fit bigger brakes on the cupra- with 40 hp more- I figured I would upgrade and so far am pleased- but in this damp and cold weather I am far from using them late or hard!

225/45/17- Gsd 3's as supplied and fitted by you!

I want some in 225/45/17- My car will do 140 plus but I don't in view of a, the law and b, my desire to live a longer life. Can I use a winter tyre with "H" rating? What tyre should I use until March?

Yep, the effect is that the brake disc is just a rotor or ring bolted on to a light weight centre which is machined so as to place the braking surface to suit the caliper position-7mm from the line of the O/E discs to allow huge calipers to clear the rims. New Old

Thanks for that although with my brakes I need to stick to mt 17"s!! Hopefully Tony can provide a solution.

I find myself considering tyres for this cold and miserable weather- my Eagle Gsd 3s are leaving me with a light show from the Traction control light with even moderate acceleration and a very squirelly feel if I try at all hard. What is available and what do people think?

No we don't supply.... In truth if your in the owners club then they would have more experience on this topic than us, simply because we cannot efficiently focus on every product made for every car, whereas the clubs being type specific can. I have found the answer AP racing 4 pots with Ds2500 pads on 335 rotors and alloy bells- They are more powerful, are fine at low speeds and from cold and save about 4kg each side!

195/50 T1r Toyos- it may reduce roll to lower your Mondeo but it may be that uprated ARBs are a good route?

16" rims do very well 17s are crashy and spoil the feel of the car! lowering does much more good cosmetically to be honest but at 30mm it retains a civilised feel.

They are Eibachs - from r-tec and yes indeed I do have pics!

Drove over with my 306 Cabrio for a sort out today Fearing that my suspension-30mm eibachs and 16" rims might well be all over the shop especially since having the subframe and rack dropped for exhaust work just to thicken the plot. All good and now with a straight steering wheel! Thanks Tony!!

Do you have a reccomendation? I have heard good things about ds2500s but have also been told of noisy and poor response when cold and do a 2 mile commute daily. Are there cold performance and noise issues? Do you supply for this fitment?

My Leon TFSI is a little bit faster than it's brakes what would improve performance? 312mm disks as fitted to the Mk V Gti.

I have only had the chance to try them on greasy back lanes and broken urban surfaces so far but the whole feel of the car is better- smoother and much less crashy and uncomfortable. I would welcome your thoughts on possible ARB changes as now the ride is much improved I need to consider whether any loss of stiffness can be replaced by more control.

No, hoping the improvement effected by the Eibachs- significantly better than o/e- will be reinforced by the Konis- a reputedly smoother damper than the originals. Tyres afaik can be hoped to reduce noise and make a contribution to fine detail of ride but only in the narrow sense. I found on the peugeot that the big improvement was Eibachs and shocks but that 16" rims and T1rs - as opposed to 17"s and Falkens-further reinforce the prime changes. This is purely empirical and hit and miss stuff but I would not want to fit an extremely stiff or noisy tyre- I have heard well of GSD3s and assymetrics and it seems I may be on the right track. Can you do gsd 3s and if so what is the price?

Good evening everyone, I have a LeonFr- 197 bhp Tfsi with Dsg gearbox and am gradually making it suit me-I have Eibach Pro-kit springs which work well providing a good cosmetic lowering and significantly better ride quality than the o/e springs, I have just fitted Koni Fsd shocks- as yet untested but with the aim of making the ride quality a little more fluid. The Fr is a bit of a stiff and crashy old hector as standard with good road holding but a busy and tiresome ride. The car runs on 225/45/17s- presently Bridgestone RE 050s which provide plenty of grip and a slightly noisy ride. What tyres would provide a good and not too noisy next step- I do not expect to run out of grip but would like some more refinement. Looks matter too!
