I can not contribute to answering the questions since I, also, do not understand how come they have so many variations, how come there is so little information as to how each dimmension affects safety, handling, economy, etc.

Hola all from Cancun Mexico. I have a Mazda MX5 2007 with retractable hard top... and love it. A few weeks ago I had a punture, which I did not noticed on a timely manner and damaged the tyre. I have been looking for a replacement with no success because Cancun, with all it advantages, is a difficult place for some items... tyres being one of them since dealers are giving me 6 to 8 weeks delivery times, a length of time I rather not wait. My car came equiped with Michelin 205/45/17. I have found 205/40/17 and 215/45/17. I can get two 205/40/17 and put them on the front or I can get two 215/45/17 and put them on the rear. Which option (if any) is better? What are the implications of each? Thanks to all for your comments.
