  1. Tony, the MR2 I have is a 1995 model, from my old MR2 days essentially I think its a system with very little range in adjustment from the factory, the car is also very low. Maybe a visit to WIM combined with camber bolts could correct the problem? Currently the car in not adjustable at the limit (at least I can't) it goes from understeer with too much throttle to snap oversteer if you back off to try and tighten line, I'm aware of this MR2 trait but my old car didn't react so viciously by any margin.
  2. I have an MR2 SW20, it was to be the cheap runabout, however I quite like it so want to correct its problems. Its biggest problem is it is sat on 4 identical 17"x7.5 ET35 wheels, I have so far spun it 3 times on track. My previous MR2 many years ago I was lucky enough to find a set of TOM's/ RAY'S 16"x7 front ET 33, 16"x8 rear ET30 (the current owner says, i think they were 38), these transformed the handling from the stock 15"x7, ET45 & 15"x8 ET45, they were also vastly better than the current car on the 17" wheels, that car had 100bhp more and i never spun it. I have been trying to find some similar specification wheels and struggling. I have Found Compomotive will supply a set of their MO motorsport wheels, but they are not cheap at £750 a set. Image I have also looked at and they are £1200 or £1600 depending on material. Too much when the MR2 was a similar price whole. Does anyone know of any other options? Thanks p.s. See you at 08:30 on Friday in my Eunos Tony
  3. I was thinking of picking up a set of pre 2003 MR2 roadster wheels with the staggered width setup, but not the diameter change. I'm currently running 15x7 ET 37 with 195/50's, from the stock 14x6 ET45 185/55. The mr2 wheels are 15x6 45ET and 15x6.5 ET 45, so I was thinking 195 up fron 205 rear. Centre bore & stud pattern are correct, as the mr2 wheels corrode there are plenty of sets available very cheaply so I would think they'd be ideal as a set of trackday wheels. They are also nice and light in comparison to cheap aftermarket items.
  4. I have upped the power on my MX5 to 250bhp, I have been wondering about fitting wider rear tyres. I see many high power rear drive cars have wider rear tyres than up front and wonder if this setup would be beneficial for the mx5 now rather than a low 133bhp its got 250bhp going through the rear wheels. or will it just make it "understeery"?
  5. thats not altering any positions though so shouldn't have an effect I'd have thought? its just if the top of the damper unit is higher in the car (spring position remaining the same) is there any geo effects? I'd not be touching any adjuster bolts that Tony's put in positions I'm currently happy with
  6. I have been thinking about getting a set of these :- http://www.flyinmiata.com/index.php?deptid...57100%20%2010MM As all they do is allow the shock body to sit higher and retain the spring position, would I need to have my alignment re-done? To fit them I would not be touching any of the alignment bolts. thanks Steve
  7. Best modification going from 195/60/15 front and 225/50/15 rear tyres to 205/45/16 and 225/45/16 on my MR2 turbo, with a lightweight set of RAYS alloys, that were and inch wider at both ends with a slightly lower negitive offset so the wheels sat with the original centre line. Improved handling vastly. Worst mod, Unichip badly mapped on my MR2 turbo, resulted in a cracked ringland at castle combe one day All forms of body mod are pointless in my opinion, except maybe OEM updates that may do something positive to resale value.
  8. So Tony, you said my car (the black MX5 on monday) was probably the lowest mx5 you have seen. I'm in agreement its probably a touch too low for day-to-day use as it scrapes my drive, luckily its not a day-to-day car, any way, do you think it being so low has any detrimental effect to handling? I didn't think it would be as low as it has turned out as I bought 40mm drop springs (Eibach) and new dampers (KYB AGX) with the platform 10mm higher than stock (Bilsteins) so should have ended up with a 30mm drop..
  9. Got Directional Bridgestone RE720's all round on my Euno and i'm very happy with them in road use, yet to use them on track. They do seem very good in the wet, on my other car Proton satria I have them on the front and they have made pulling out of junctions a less wheel spinning affair and braking is imporved, previously had some unknown (symmetrical) ditchfinders on it mind.
