  1. wasnt too expensive, got the hub unit for 120 euro. So while i have gotten rid of the brake shudder, i'm still get a bit off shudder through steering wheel on motorways around 100kmh+ I'll try get the wheels balanced again and see does that help
  2. so managed to swap the hub this evening, tough job to get the hub but off! took about 2 hours in total but handy enough job to do once you have all the right tools, drove the car home from work and it seems like this has solved the brake shudder issues i was getting, only a short drive home up the motorway, but initial reports are that the old hub was knackered, no visible signs of damage on it. You cannot buy the wheel bearing seperately so it all comes as one unit, hub and bearing Out with the old: in with the new: You can tell they have changed th hub design since the car was first manufactured so hopefully i wont need to replace them again!
  3. So still havent managed to get around to getting this sorted yet, but came across this interesting article that i found useful and will be looking at cleaning the hub and disc bell over the weekend. Brake judder cleaned passenger side front hub yesterday, quite a bit of rust on both hub plate and rear of disc bell. no noticeable improvement. I picked up a brand new wheel hub at a great price from Subaru dealer so i will be replacing front drivers side tomorrow(one that had seized caliper). fingers crossed that solves my issue!

  5. The hub comes as one part so im not sure how easily i can just replace the drive flange. Ill take of the disc over the weekend, clean and check for visble damage. Thanks for the help guys! really wish we had a place as good as WIM in Ireland!
  6. were getting close. so the plate on the wheel bearing? Numbered 4 in the above diagram? perhaps this was damaged when i had the old caliper seizing once or twice
  7. thanks for info Tony, ill get it looked at. what exactly could go wrong with that plate? They can buckle very slightly, you need to remove the disc and put a straight edge on the flange. is it the stone guard plate you talking about in the diagram below ? Or is it part of the wheel bearing/hub? sorry for all the questions!
  8. thanks for info Tony, ill get it looked at. what exactly could go wrong with that plate?
  9. well wishbone bushings were replaced a few weeks ago as i thought that was the cause of vibration increasing under braking but it didnt change anything. So how likely is it that its a problem with either the new AP calipers or discs? unless its 2 seperate problems like unbalanced wheels and brake problem! can wait to get the car sorted properly so i can get some confidence back in the car
  10. So wheels are hub centric so no need for spigot rings, they are made specially for Subaru fitment. So ruling that out what else could i check maybe? Have you ever worked with any places in Ireland that you would recommend for alignment and that? i just want to make sure the place im leaving the car knows what they are doing. Im just looking for an excuse to go over to UK so i can drive the car to WIM!!
  11. not sure about the spigot rings Tony, i can find out. No spacers on these wheels i was toying with theat idea only on the smaller 17" Rota's i had on previously
  12. Have been having some trouble with car lately Seized caliper so i upgraded fronts to nice set of AP racing kit Goodyear tyres were wearing unevenly due to me never getting the alignment done since i bought it so i bought new set of Enkei wheels and got a new set of Vredestein tyres while i was at it! Got the wheels balanced and 4 wheel alignment sorted locally Got lower wishbone bushings replaced as they were torn and i thought this was the main cause of the vibration So vibration through the steering on anything over 80kmh on the motorway and also under braking it gets worse. I'm now at a loss as to what it could be. Is there anything else i can check for? Not really any good specialists in this Ireland that would be as good as WIM! And to make matters worse someone side swiped me last week, wrecking drivers rear wheel, wheel bearing and rear trailing arm, all getting fixed next week. So any of the changes made cause this vibration or any other area's i should check. Thanks in advance!
  13. Yep i think they are the ones he has, i check em out. thanks
  14. Thanks for info lads, one of the lads of the Subaru club has 20mm spacers all round on his Forrester and what ever kit he has it came with longer studs. might try get a lend of them off him and see how they work with mine
  15. Hey guys, i was thinking off adding some spacers to my Legacy so that the wheels would fill the arches better and give the car that more aggressive look. currently have 17 * 7.5 Rota Gra's with standard Bilstein shocks with Tein S tech -40mm lowering springs Is there any handling benefit to wheel spacers apart from the visual appearance? or any negative affect, was thinking of about 20mm all round
  16. what difference would fitting just a rear one, compared to front and rear?
  17. less body roll maybe. @Noel, i presume squatting like a dog is a bad thing!
  18. So haven't done much to the handling on the Legacy yet, new tyres going on at the end of the month(Falken 452's. good or bad?) have it sitting on Tein S Tech lowering springs that dropped it 40 mm all around on the JDM Bilstein struts. Is there any other minor tweaks i can do to improve handling without sacrificing comfort. She is sitting nicely now and don't want to go any lower. Had Coilovers on the Altezza and dont want to go down that route again. I heard with the 4WD's just adding a rear uprated ARB can help a lot. Any point in front and rear strut bars either? Cheers
  19. problem has seemed to have disappeared on its own! probably just the springs settling in. A knocking noise can signify something serious. I'd still get it chcked out, just to be on the safe side. I really like these later shape Legacys. Looks great. seems like top mount on one of the struts slipped down a bit because it wasnt seated properly, all is good now

  21. I haven't been on here in a long time So not sure whether i mentioned it on here but i was involved in a bad crash in my Altezza and that is no more and the new car: Anyway didn't cry over that too long. Moved on to a 2003 Subaru Legacy 2.0 GT. Few little small issues when i got it. since i have got the car i have gotten the following done to the car which maybe be the reason for my current problem: 1. Front pads replaced - couldn't fit both shims on the back of the pads so left one off on each side 2. Front lower control arm bushings replaced. to get rid of bad vibration feed back through the steering and break peadl under breaking. Known weak point on these 3. Tein S Tech lowering springs all round, on JDM Bilstein struts. The problem i have no is when turning at low speeds there is a knocking/clunk coming from something. also happens if i turn the car when stationery too. Could this be related to any of the above things that have been changed since i got the car? others have suggested: cv joint wheel bearing Centre diff failing My mechanic cant have a look at the car until Saturday, but want to try and find the problem before then incase i need to order an parts. Cheers
  22. ok so just curious what difference it would make adding a rear strut brace too....
  23. Just wanna see what difference there is handling wise, when i remove my Front Strut brace, dont think its doing much for improving handling since mine is a RWD. will it affect the geometry of my car if its removed? And what are the supposed benefits of strut braces?
  24. Providing you return the trim height back to the nearest 1mm (front/rear/diagonal) then you are safe....... And oi please don't abandon us now Thanks for the info! I want abandon anyone!! Plenty of more annoying questions but maybe i should search your forum first to make sure my questions havent been asked already
  25. one last final question Tony then ill leave you alone. Since a got my geometry sorted if i lower the car a bit for a few days then higher it back up to what it was, will this throw all my angles? Cheers
