even on very stiff its surprising how much movement you get
so i say it would need to be solid mounted

I've been looking at the Nikkor 55-200 with VR that's £150 on amazon but for that price it will be a grey import. However, I have seen the same lens for sale without VR for £80. Now do I really need this on a 200mm zoom? I will mainly be using it for animals and cars. I've been doing some reading and it's actually suggested you don't need to use this all the time, just as and when it's needed. I need the lens for next thursday or definitely the weekend so what do we think?
do you shoot mainly from tripod or hand ?
if by hand then the answer is yes, get VR, more so at 200mm zoom
I always think its better to have the option than not
do the grey imports carry worldwide warranty ?

I'm halfway through the second bottle of fuchs 10w40, 4L ones and it's not cheap oil. When it's run out I will just get some cheap stuff. How does a compression test work then Barrie?
compression test simply shows if any wear in the pistons, rings or bores
plugs into the spark plug hole and when the engine is turned shows what pressure there is
ideally all cylinders should show figures roughly the same, any showing a low pressure would indicate a problem, likewise if all showed low values
leak test is pressurising the cylinder, leaking air registers on tester and may be heard leaking through exhaust, intake etc and can give audible indication
-
try a compression test (i have a tester if you need one)
then try a leakage test (i am going to learn how to make one this week ! )
will give a clue to where the oil is going
the starlet is undergoing these tests to pinpoint a blown turbo, much easier and safer to carry out simple tests before the replacement

the next round of the Toyota Sprint Series is at Woodbridge (nr Ipswich) on September 19th
Woodbridge is an airfield site with endless possibilities of track layouts, no one knows exactly what the layout will be, but it will be around 2 miles long !
the day consists of
2 sighting laps
2 practice laps
and 8 timed runs
and open pit lane, if time permits
Javelin trackdays will be running the event
in a safe and organised manner you have the chance to pit your car against 600hp 4wd monsters or 67hp mild and meek
your chance to compete against Jonny Milner (twice British rally champion)
anyone with a Toyota can enter, as long as it has a current MOT and is roadworthy
and will be entered into the corresponding Toyota sprint class (A to F) to suit their car
and now, due to numbers being a bit low
anyone with any make of car can enter, as long as it has a current MOT and is roadworthy
there are a few exceptions (rollcages to convertibles)
this is now known as class X
so who fancy's a go ?
there will be on site catering, toilets
and a great friendly atmosphere, help with driving, mechanical problems, setting up, etc will be freely available
cost is £100
please post any questions here
or visit the Toyota Sprint forums

Don't often say this..... Actually i've never said this but i think we have hit the grip limit for the rocket, she looked perfect. Ok screaming rubber suggests understeer but the line displays traction -V- inertia so i'm not fazed by that.
So where next? In competition we cannot stand still, if you do you come last... I have a cunning plan
it needs to be raised a touch, something is knocking since it was last dropped
and then, what we need now is some clever person to work out how to stick some negative camber on the rear
a cunning plan ! i like the sound of that
-
she was tight !
grip was phenomenal with no slip/sliding, corners were being taken faster than most of the others
the top corner was the only one which induced a bit of understeer, but a short lift off quickly brought her back in
she behaved
well... other than deciding to kill her water pump

bit of track action at the Starlet trackday
and yes there were various other makes there !
Please wait a few moments for Video to Load! -
I'm also working to gain a few examples of the TyrePal to be worked/ tested with active track cars, this could result in a few sets at cost or even maybe free depending on supportive decal?
Let me know if you get one in, I don't need to test it out or anything but I'd like to put one of those on the wheels and see how it looks.
Will do..... Like i said i hope to get a free sample and i'll blog it here so everyone can see the results.
if you need a test head
I was at a track day at Llandow today
tyre pressures were set at 28 all round, after the first 15 minute session the left hand tyres were at 33 and the right hand at 30
by lowering the pressures accordingly whilst still hot, further sessions were recording 29 +/- 1 all round at the finish
so in theory unequal pressures were balanced, by unbalanced heating, and most of all grip was so much improved,
Iteresting Bazza, have to check that out at the next track day.
h
if you get chance to go to Llandow, jump at it
great little circuit, loads of run off, and friendly owners
was a few mx5 there today

I've seen that live but can't remember where it was? I'm thinking it's either a movie studios or a motor show or something............great show either way!
its from Euro Disney
rather good, nearly worth going to Disney to see it

one set of r888's gone in a day
Wow! How many do you go through a year?
That track does look abit crappy surface wise!
depends on the tracks , but would hope to get 5 sprints out of a set
this was the most tyre destroying surface so far !
