  1. are the original offsets not the usual lexus 45mm ?

I know what the slacker is up to :D

They'll be fine at the front but you'll need a 15mm spacer at the back for any real effect

cant say i know what tango is up to

but rubbage comes to mind :)

i have read about having to use 225 tyres on the front to prevent rub

    Tony,

In the process of changing the wheels and springs on my second generation Lexus IS, and would appreciate your advice on the possible consequences, if any, and whether you would advise any geometry changes to the standard set up.

Changes are 19x8.5 Front 19x9.5 Rear (standard is 17x7.5 & 17x8.5 on the SE-L, or 18" optional dia with same widths)

Tyre sizes Front 235/35/19 Rear 275/30/19

Suspension mod is Eibach Pro Kit spring replacements for the 250, which gives a drop of 1.4" at the front, 1" at the rear.

Well the rolling radius front and rear is incorrect, with 235/35 front aspect then the rear should be 255/30 aspect. Next i would need to know your intentions for the drive.... road, race, display?

i think the is250 has a different aspect from front to rear as standard :)

  2. the offsets of the new wheels will be a deciding factor on a good fitment, i presume its uncharted territory presently, might be worth a trip to is300.net to get some clarification,

  3. but your not supposed to travel more than 40 mph, and only to get your damaged tyre replaced, the space saver is an emergency repair

i see no problems with them if used as there intended, and not as most use them for, as a SPARE wheel

    Exactly.

They do the job intended and leave enough room for the shopping plus save a chunk of weight improving performance and MPG.

Tony, i really don't see what your beef is with them. Both examples can obviously handle the cars load as they've made it to you in one piece.

agree with what your saying jon, but say your travelling a fair distance and its past closing time on a sunday, and you need to take motorways to get you home, ....its gonna be a long journey just for the sake of saving a few cubic inches, cant see how the little weight difference would help in anyway at all

    But something is odd....

Try this experiment: Hold your left hand out as if to shake someones hand, now place a finger from your right hand on the left palm near the wrist.. now rotate your left hand toward the right in an attempt to lay it flat.... what direction did the left hands fingers go... left or right?

If explained correctly they have gone left.... This is a simulation of the camber leaning due to the bend and the toe moving due to the position of the steering arm.

    mine went right :o

when you said "toward the right" i thought you meant toward the right !!

    :D try again......

:D ok the top two went right , the bottom two went left

im kind of seeing the idea though :D
