  1. Are TDI still developing the katana downpipe and decat/hi flow cat for the is200?

     

    Yes we developed it some time ago.

     

    Dave's Rotrex supercharged iS200 developed a misfire at the last dyno day which transpired to be caused by a melted and blocked catalytic converter, so we developed the Katana high flow down pipe and hi flow cat on his car.

     

    Daves car is running a lot of boost and so was generarating an unusually high degree of exhaust back pressure. Changing to larger down pipes and the high flow cat presented him with another 20hp or so.

     

    We have paid for the jigs to be made so can produce the Katana down pipe and cat to order. We haven't marketed them yet because we don't have any pictures.

  2. It may be worth reviewing the SAE library.

     

    SAE is a world authority on all automotive issues, and the white papers that are published are reviewed by the leading scientists in each field.

     

    I gleaned much of my knowledge of engine dynamics from SAE white papers. It's a very deep mine of authenticated scientific data.

  3. This is symptomatic of the usual main dealer drone mentallity :)

     

    It's very difficult to find a Tech that actually fully understands what he is doing any why he is doing it. Most tend to rely on information given to them without question.

  4. I would say suck through but it's possibly more important to recognise the importance of decent shrouds for the fans, as this will cool more of the surface area of the radiator than without a shroud.

     

    Another consideration is that the fans are not normally operational when the car is moving because there is suficient ambient airflow, and blow through fans can impede the cooling by obstructing the frontal area of the radiator

  5. the harmonic characteristic's of a four stroke exhaust are of the utmost importance.

     

    It's a bit of a black art (read- Complicated Science) I'm afraid :)

     

    Perhaps someone should design one with variable length - a section a bit like a trombone slide maybe - and a linear motor so it could be adjusted while driving.

     

    Then you could make it play whatever note you liked . . . . . . . . <_<

    I had a Yamaha 1000cc motor bike back in about 1990 that had a similar system called "Exup" which was an electrically controlled valve in the exhaust collector which optimised the torque curve for different engine speeds :huh:

    Sam assisted Jap Performance magazine recently to compose a technical article on chassis dynamics in general and for drifting. The article is due to be published shortly so that should help raise peoples awareness too :)

  7. Very wise words indeed.

     

    A very good example of this is a Supra that Tony recommeded to come to us last week for a coil over suspension kit installation and calibration.

     

    As part of the geometry check we did a frame check and found that car was actually bent. Further investigation revealed that the car had been repaired after an accident. The repair was very good and hard to spot, but of course not really repaired well enough.

  8. I think we all know what merchat banker is rhyming slang for, and I find it encouraging that there appears to be a self awareness of his own status.

     

    If he has any doubts or concerns about the work that we did on the car in question, I suggest he looks on his own doorstep because the person responsible for the work on that car now works for him, after being sacked from TDI for thieving and other dishonest activities.
