  1. I guess the Quick Plates work on the same principle as a 3 or 4-jaw chuck on a lathe ensuring the studs are concentric with the spindle of the balancing machine. Clever stuff. .. Rob
  2. That makes sense, and also would explain why a wheel balanced on one machine would be "out " on another when using the centre hole / die method - you can't guarantee fitting the wheel in the same orientation each time. If I can't find a local place using the "French method" I will be driving over to Chesham. Thanks for your advice
  3. Hi Tony, no wheel bearing rumble, just this shuddering from 40mph+. The steering wheel is steady all the way through. The front wheels have been balanced twice, when the tyres were fitted (about 6 weeks ago) then 2 weeks after. Then when that didn't work I had the rears balanced as well. Still no joy. The only thing I can think is that the (well known) tyre centre didn't get the front wheel alignment right but that wouldnt result in the shuddering, would it? The annoying thing is, the car drove OK before I had this all done.
  4. I'm a newbie and would appreciate a bit of advice. I have an H reg Eunos Roadster and to get it through the MOT recently had a pair of budget tyres (first mistake) for the front fitted by a well known tyre fitting shop (second mistake). They were busy so I left the car with them and did a bit of shopping. Half hour later they call saying the tracking needed doing so I said to go ahead (third mistake). When I collected the car I drove the short drive home and all seemed OK. As the wife uses the car it was a couple of weeks later that I got to drive it the 20 miles to work. I found that the car shudders at 40mph upwards and despite subsequently having had the front wheels rebalanced at another branch of the same company, the problem persists. Is it the tyres? I jacked up the front and find when rotated they have an ovality with about 2mm between the high and low spots. Is this normal? Or is the shuddering down to the alignment when they adjusted the tracking? Any opinions would be appreciated, apart from don't go back to that tyre fitting shop!
