Hi,
I have a totally stock 2004 BMW Z4 3.0i with the sport suspension running 225/35/18 fronts and 255/40/18 rears fitted with Goodyear Eagle F1 AS2 all round.
I had a period in time when I couldn't drive my car but the MOT ran out. It failed the MOT where the front lower suspension arms were replaced due to the bushings previously having too much play. I also had the rear tyres replaced with like for like as they were wearing out. A basic tracking was completed on the car at the time of the suspension arms being fitted.
I noticed the issue that the car would oversteer much before the front tyres being at their limit of grip whereas before the handling of course tended to understeer. Now I really am not liking the oversteer as I feel it is limiting the cornering grip plus it has made me lose confidence with the car. So due to this I took the car to a garage with Hunter alignment equipment to have the full geometry checked. They checked it, said a few things was not ideal and told me it couldn't be adjusted.
Figure 1 below shows the results from the garages alignment check.. I have also done some digging on Z4 alignment from factory and to my best knowledge figure 2 shows what BMW recommend. As can be seen I do have a few things out.
Today I decided to also do more of a physical check of the car and this is what I found:
Tyres - All fitted correctly and the pressures were 0.1bar below recommended at the front and 0.2bar below recommended at the rear. All tyres have now been corrected.
Antiroll/Sway bars - Front and rear fitted all ok.
Springs - Front and rear all ok with none snapped/broken.
So does it seem like it is down to the geometry being incorrect causing this? If so how do I go about correcting these as the previous garage said they couldn't do anything. Any help would be appreciated as it has made me not enjoy my car any more!
