Sorry I just started another thread on exactly this subject, these look good:
But as above a list of prices would be ideal

So I've got myself a "winter test bed car" - I'm going to be running it on some steelies most likey 195/65/15's
I'm after some winter tyres, what do WIM stock? Any recommendations?
These look good, can you order them in?

Toyo and Falken are fire and forget tyres ( good all-rounders ) F1 Asymmetric has been a problematic tyre that i won't recommend.... As for fitting you own tyres it's £15+ per tyre.
Thanks Tony

Sorry for dragging up old thread, but read with interest as I do put a little copper slip on the wheel bolts. Not on the thread, but on the flat surface to stop it sticking to the wheel. I also put some on the wheel hub to stop it sticking on. (had it before where wheels are stuck fast)
As long as you avoid the thread is it ok?

I've just had 452's fitted to my Octavia vrs (225-45-18) used to have them on my Skyline , i think the dry weather grip is about the same as Eagle F1's although the Goodyears are better in the wet .
If you look at my mixing eagle f1 's thread you can see on my Superb also 225-45-18 i really havent been impressed with the Assy2 they were really awful when new although they feel better now i still think the gsd's were a big step forward apparently this vagueness is worse on heavy cars and i'm guessing your car is no lightweight
Toyo's are better in the dry than the F1's but i dont think anything can beat them in the wet
Thanks, food for thought. Interesting to get someones view with 452's who is actually deploying some power down.

I think there is
Once again a BMW 3 series on RFT's, geo is as suggested by BMW and yet this tyre wear. They claim neglecting tyre pressures is a reason for the tyre wear and yet the cars have pressure monitors
I've said it before and i'll shout it again now.... The RFT' tyre cannot deform to the BMW 3 series sport camber positions "FACT".
Lots of tread left there too. Not taken long to do that!
As I understand it legal tread needs to cover at least 2/3's of the tyre? So they would still be legal?

I'd stick with 452's , whatever you go for the 235-17 will increase road noise a bit anyhow , other option would be Toyo T1R's they are grippy and a little softer than 452's so may not be as noisy but wont last as long by a long way
Thanks for the suggestion, my mum has Toyo Proxies on the back of her 3.0 Estate, I can't really compare noise as the estates are louder anyway.
Looking for a bit more grip than Falkens, also couple of people have had them on 17's and reported tram lining.
I've managed to find Goodyear Eagle F1 Asymmetric 2 for good price, reviews suggest very good! Anybody have any experience of those?
I can't see them on blackboots website, @WIM/Blackboots I brought tyres to you what would be the cost of fitting?
Thanks

Hi WIM (Tony!)
Myself & my family have been bringing our Omegas for you to some time, great service as always
I'm getting myself a newer & more powerful version of mine, a 3.2 V6 Saloon. I had Falkens (912's & 452's(?)) fitted before on 225/55/R16, which were fine with my 2.2 16v, nice and quiet, they have lasted 36k too!
But with V6, I want something a bit more grippy, but at same time want to keep noise low, as I mainly do motorway miles.
I'm going to be one of those annoying people who wants grip, but not at the cost of road noise
Can you recommend anything in 235/45/17?
Thanks

shocking!

maybe a tip off to the local police where this guy lives, with copy of the photos? On Police Interceptors a while ago some lad got pulled because some neighbours thought he was dealing drugs (all innocent in the end) but the tip off had a flag put in the ANPR database and so he was stopped next time he passed a patrol car.

Thanks for the call today
No problem, although i just might have put a spanner in the works, i just double checked what tyres are on there now, they are 225 50 R16, i believe i quoted you 225 55 R16 on the phone.
Do carry the 225 50 R16 in stock? Can 55/50's be mixed? My rears have plenty of tread left.
Cheers
No they can't be mixed..... can you call tomorrow so we can get the order straight.
Yes not a problem, thanks for the quick reply.
I hope you can get 50's otherwise its going to get expensive!

Wooo Eagle Venturas! Haven't seen them for a while! Are they still avaliable ?
I believe letter of the law is 75% across the central three quarters with visible tread on the remaining quarter.
Second picture is almost certainly illegal.
nope ! can be bald on the remaining 25%
unless its gross weight is over 3500kg
The Omega is heavy, but not that heavy
I would happily buy Eagle Venturas again, i think they are very good tyres, ok not a lot of grip but just go on forever!
Tony, can you still get these?
Not sure....... what size are they?
I *think* they are 225 55 R16

Hi tunnie
It's possible things have moved since we set the chassis, 40k on any tyres is a mighty fine result saying that your pushing the law with them now so i advise you replace them anytime soon.
Thanks Tony, i was afraid you were going to say that
I'll pop down at the weekend for a set of front boots and a tune up!
Sorry mate... Tiss the law If you are coming at the weekend let me know for sure because we are rammed...... It's all those pesky customers
I posted here cause i knew i would get an honest answer! Too many places make that sound of sucking air through their teeth and say "oooo need new ones there"
I shall ring tomorrow, sadly, i cannot get down during the week.
i would say it is touch and go wether it is on the legal or illegal side
either way dont risk yourself and get a new set
Got to agree... wise words inded.
I got nearly 40k out of the current set, so can't complain really!
Is it worth putting the rears on the front? As its a RWD car, so guessing its best to have the best tyres on the back?

Looking at the pics i would say its slightly out of alignment..but could also be because of under inflated tyres..? Tony should be able to tell you more...
Thanks, I has worn more since being WIM'd but thought that was down to chucking it around more + age
Tyres are checked fairly often, i usually keep them at 31, they have dropped to 28 ish sometimes.
-
I got my Omega WIM'd about a year ago, instant difference. Goes around corners like its on rails, i have been chucking it about a bit more, would that cause this tyre wear?
I was thinking the wishbones could be on the way out?
Also how are they legal wise? My understanding is that it should have the legal amount of tread across 75% of the tyre. That said, i cannot complain about them, they have done best part of 40k
Thanks in advance
