Lucky escape! How did his head come out when I'm assuming he would have had racing harnesses?
-
Welcome to WIM!
I'll let Tony respond to this properly but I also have a Merc that had exactly the same issues (they all do) that was cured by WIM - it's definitely not "how they should be".
Are you within reasonable distance of the WIM centre in Chesham? If so the best thing to do is let them work their magic and sort the issue.

Talking of insurance will this hike your premiums, as really it should be a non fault claim?
When my car was stolen it wasn't considered non-fault, but with protected no claims the impact was minimal. Nowadays any claim hits your premium though so you can't really get away from it.

Even Jay said that's the worse one he's seen for coming back so soon after being fitted! Hopefully it's a rare occurrence!
Think I can trump that with hitting a pothole and buckling two wheels just 2 days after putting the new wheels and tyres on!
-
I agree with you, I think it's either been cloned or broken for parts. Unlikely it was used in a robbery, there are less conspicuous places to take a car from if you want to use it again.
That's a real bugger about the plate, I didn't know that was the case? Yes try and settle as soon as you can and then fingers crossed the car turns up straight after! How is the claim going, is the insurer being cooperative?
-
That's such bad luck, very similar to where the puncture I recently got was too. Mine was not quite so far on the edge but didn't even want to think about repairing it so went with a new tyre.
-
Well we stopped using them.
That's enough evidence that BJV probably still aren't worth using then
-
Or I could sell it on ebay, sold as seen, let someone else repair it and recoup some of the money back for the new tyre.
That seems a better idea - might actually end up recouping a lot of the cost.
-
Awful timing too! These things happen though, just try and put it behind you and enjoy your trip!
-
Hmmm, not sure I'd pay £25 to repair a £68 tyre, seems like that would be better spent going towards a new tyre personally.
-
Does that mean they've improved now?
Yep agreed on the powder coat, don't think I'd ever have wheels wet painted unless it was really cheap - to be fair the BJV job was pretty tough, even after 8 years the wheels on the IS don't look too bad, bit of corrosion starting to creep through but mostly look ok.
-
That's really bad luck! Good idea to keep it as a spare
-
BJV did the wheels on my Lexus a while back - definitely cheaper but it shows in the quality. To be fair it's probably good enough if you're not fussy but the finish doesn't come close.
-
Looks like a good job but cost would be a factor.
The refurb was £280+VAT for the four wheels including borrowing their wheels for the week, but I had to pay an extra £15+VAT on each wheel as they all needed a bit of straightening. So total job was just over £400 all inclusive.
A bit on the pricey side, but given the quality of the work, the fact that the loan wheels meant the car could stay on the road, and the convenience of being in London, it seemed a fair price.

It's never to late to try.
True, this in conjunction with some kind of hybrid setup could bring massive efficiency gains if what they are saying is true.
-
Frightened of the bills with the Masser . The F type is an obvious choice but i want something bigger really , also they are very common around here
Agree on the F Type being quite common now. The running costs on a Maser are not actually that bad if you buy well (an inspection is a must) and use a good indie - if you're interested I can put you in touch with the guy who looks after my car about potential running costs.
They're generally quite reliable and even parts aren't too expensive.
-
This does seem very interesting - it looks horrendously complicated but if it has good driveability and serious efficiency gains then it really is a massive step forward for the ICE.
With the gains made in electric cars and other alternative power sources it might be too little too late but then again it could be the kind of thing that extends the life of the traditional engine.
-
Thanks - yeah they've done a cracking job, the finish close up is superb. Plus the added convenience that they have loan wheels for many cars, so was able to keep the car running while they did the refurb, then just pop back in and swap my wheels back on and it's all done.
Great service and conveniently in London too!

Exotics dont really do it for me , i like understated
I get that, although I wouldn't really call a 370Z understated!
Is the Jag F Type or Maser Granturismo too flashy too?
-
Yeah really need to get the wheel wax on but as it's me who knows when it'll happen
-
-
Fair point about the mustang, haven't seen one inside yet but can't imagine it's anything to get excited about.
If it's only a weekend car, not tempted to get something a bit more exotic?
-
Yeah I've been in that underground car park, always felt totally safe. Very bizarre incident, particularly for a Galaxy! Could it be they break it down for parts rather than actually move the whole car? Must be far less risky to do that with something so common than need to shift on a high end car from the more traditional type of theft.
-
Shame the 370Z isn't quite working for you, could it be that it's just too good at what it does which makes it a bit soulless?
May have discussed this before but have you considered the new Mustang? It's surely quite crude but a stonking V8 and great looks make it an appealing package.

How can GAP be dragging their feet? It's their job to make up the difference - or are they arguing that the insurers offer is too low so they're having to make up too much?
Bet you're glad you took out GAP insurance!
