    The final point of return is likely to be the cambers still.... We need to finish the calibration!

     

    Also i want to align the position of the track rod ends because i think the pin is to perpendicular.

     

    Since you now have front camber adjusters "book her in"................. Again :lol:

    Lol will do mate, and no other other things or excuses this time! End of Oct is probably good, get another DWYB in, and I think by then the coilovers would have bedded in to the point where I cannot go over speed bumps (right now my fuel tank scrapes on some, its far too low!) :D

     

    Will let you know anyway mate, would definetely be nice to finally sort out the camber and self center!

  2. Tony asked me to post up a PM I just sent, for informational purposes, and also to share my strange oddity with you all (my car self centers, but up to 1/8th of a turn away from full center), so here it is!

     

    Hello mate,

     

    Apologies again for not making our alignment, I hope it didn't cause you too much hassle. I was in Hatfield actually, but had started on the FMIC and rushed to finish it off, then failed, rather than be late like the time I came to Watford I sent the SMS.

     

    Anyway, went to DWYB at Santa Pod yesterday and got about 6 hours of solid drifting done, and was well impressed with the car and the handling! Went from overheating the engine (too much right foot, too little talent) on some of my first runs round the cones, to being able to control the car easily switching directions figure of 8 and round the 1 cone at various distances. Also attacked the circuit at the end of the day, got some good drifts going, definetely need to practice more, especially with the handbrake, and possibly a mechanical 2-way LSD next!

     

    I can confirm that the self centering definetely works, as I was using it often throughout the day, it still doesnt self center all the way, but this wasn't nearly as bad as I thought! Considering i'm running still near stock power and LSD, I was extremely happy with the suspension and alignment setup, especially considering some of the other cars that were out (I wasn't near the best but by no means the worst out).

     

    Amongst being chucked about (my harness didn't arrive in time), the adrenaline and concentration driving, I didn't really come away with anything massively useful for you alignment wise. I'm going to another drift day at the end of the month, and DWYB next month too, so should defintely have something useful for you soon, will definetely try some more circuit style courses. Am probably going to invest in a Nismo GT Pro (adjustable LSD) and hydraulic handbrake before the next one, leaving me to firmly concentrate on the steering.

     

    Hows things with you anyway, do you have a new place sorted yet?

    The Kazama TRE's : So they will fit standard rods as pictured by tony ? Thats a good solution in which case for £75!. Are there any pics floating about of the said items so i can take a look ?

     

    I know for a fact there are a number of 200 owners that would like these if they work. They would love to hear as £141 is a tad on the steep side.

     

    Are you on SXOC by any chance ?

  4. Hi Steve,

     

    Nasty problem you have there with the Tie Rod Ends! Tony called me earlier Re: My 2nd Alignment, and mentioned the problem your having. I think you can just upgrade the TRE's to resolve. However TEIN are a bunch of comedians, and as such I believe you have to match their TRE's with the rods. If you want to go this route then Driftworks sell them as a pair for £141. The reason I mention them first is because TEIN kit is quite easy to get hold of over here.

     

    The TRE's that I know will fit are Ikeya Formula and Kazama Auto. I have the Kazamas, and the nuts from the OE rods fit the Kazama Super TREs, as I needed them to fit mine (although I did actually fit the Kazama rods too) :lol:

     

    The Kazama Rods and Ends from Japan are slightly more than the TEINs, however they are superior, my Japanese contact said that he has seen TEIN Tie Rods bent where under the same conditions Kazama would not. Just the Kazama TRE's would be around £75 (that includes Import Duty, EMS by Air from Japan).

     

    Ikeya Formula are considered the flagship in suspension arm components in Japan, they do all the premier stuff buts its pricey. They do Roll Center adjust front lower arms with pillow tension rods which are pretty sexy! I'm putting a fairly sizable order through to my Japanese contact soon, so if you want I could tag on the required components and have them delivered straight to you, would probably save a bit on tax and shipping too.

     

    Also i'm curious to see what your results are with these polynolathane bushes. If they work well they are a good alternative to tension rods, so Tony/Steve, let us know :o

     

    Oh and Nengun are pretty good, they sell lots of JDM parts, which they ship from Japan to you. Some parts they do not have (like Kazama), but their prices are very competitive.

  5. Today a staff member was explaining he is having some new contraption fitted to his 04 Corsa that simulates the sound of a 'Dump Valve' ..... How sad is that :D

    LOL! Professional comedian, I almost feel sorry for him :crying:. Luckily don't think I really had a worst mod, the car I used to drive was my mum's 106 1.4 XR, and the only thing I changed on it was the head unit. I drove a few mates cars before I got the S13, but the S13 was the 1st car I bought and owned, the Rage backbox and lame chav steering wheel that were on it when I bought it were pretty shocking, but I swapped the wheel with a Sparco Safari pronto! :D

     

    Best mod... Prob right now the full arm kit I got from Japan, and poly bushes have really made a noticeable difference with the car (I put them all on at the same time), but come this weekend when I complete the suspension setup and finish my track sess i'll probably say coilovers!

  6. Very shiny! I think its common knowledge to anyone keen on suspension that Leda and KW make some of the finest coilovers outside of Japan, the Variant 3's I have read and heard verygood things about! Interesting choice on a MR2 though, are you planning a primarily track based setup?

  7. Interesting predicament. Personally I think you should give/advise the customer what he asks for! If the customer is good enough to be entering a EDC round or drift event, then he has obviously progressed his driving ability enough to be able to handle the car well in various forms.

     

    I know our roads are utterly s***e compared to most of Europe and Japan (where touge drivers have their daily drivers as agressive as you like), and that it could be potentially dangerous, but as a driver I would be annoyed if I took my car to be professionally aligned, then told that the setup was too rediculous for the road! Agree with Tony about the customer having an understanding of how his car will handle, and that it may be a monster in the wet!

     

    If some randomer or me had rolled into WIM and demanded such a setup, I could fully understand Tony telling me to foxtrot oscar though :D

  8. I haven't heard anything about these, in Japan they use Advan Neova AD-07 and Bridgestone Potenza RE-01 in both D1 and JGTC. Both very high-spec road tyres (think Eagle F1 / T1R only sexier!), JDM / U.S market only at this time unfortunately! I think Nomuken uses some special Kumho Ecstas though on the Blitz ER34 Skyline for coloured smoke :D

     

    Afaik Bazza is spot on, the reason for wearing a very good tyre is because when you decide to stop your drift, you want as much good grip, as fast as possible. Its much easier to maintain a drift in a competition spec car, especially with the sorta bhp they run, simply with throttle control, so they want good grip hence the tyres. Unfortunately us mortals don't have a tyre sponsor so we can't go about raping sets of top notch tyres when we're out! :crying:

  11. you can drift in the wet, i think the biggest issue here is its a typical Americano kid in a new car trying to show off....couple that with the fact, its a corner/bend....hes on a no brainer straight away, the crazy yankydoodle doos dont understand corners

    Suppose we can all Drift in the wet, but few could control a car with 600bhp out it's chuff :graduated: I would imagine a Drift event in the wet would be very frustrating for the driver!

    Most Yanks are comfortable with corners Mat..... navigating the orbit around a bend is evolutionary to them ;) ..... They think a 'roundabout' is somthing we buy in the Pub!

     

    Haha this is very true. Also look at the majority of US production cars, it usually involves chucking a huge capacity engine (preferably V8) and hoping that the driver does not approach a corner, or approaches one at such a speed a push bike could overtake at full chaff!

     

    I'm not sure about UK drifters, but in Japan they do not seem to care, you can find vids of Tsuchiya and other D1 drivers, or even touge regulars attacking a touge at what one can only describe as utter lunacy in the wet! Personally I am quite careful in the wet, but since rebuilding the suspension components and having her aligned I have not had much chance. Also being a relative noob I wouldn't be confident enough yet with chucking the car about in the wet. A few of my friends however consider the rain to be "easy, tyre devastation free" drifing ;)
