  1. The Starlet is running on the new FCON today.

We have some tidying up and some minor issues to deal with, then it should be on the Rototest tomorrow :D

    Excellent news Mark ;)

Does this mean Barrie won't be doing the gardening this weekend ;) Since the car has been away he has discovered he has green fingers (and thats not just because he has a cold :graduated: )

  2. Never realised there were cars that couldn't be adjusted. Be interesting to take a fiesta to kwik fit etc and ask them to sort the geometry out and see what they say! :thumbsup_anim:

LOL kwik fit can adjust all cars.....................although they wouldn't necessarily drive in a straight line afterwards

  3. He's so clever isn't he........ Bazza shall we duff him up

    .

    .

    .

Four bottles of duff should do it :thumbsup_anim:

noooo ...................he is far too good looking for that, ..............................deserves far worse :D

he didnt mention what happens when you are limited by wheel size

went for grooved and dimpled , little bit of function and they look pretty :D

Yeah.. surely the smaller disk will be rotating faster allowing more friction..... despite the smaller surface area. The down side would be the venting so adding drills seems logical to me....?

surely disc speed is governed by the speed of the vehicle/wheels/etc

the bigger disc would mean more frictional area allowing lower temperature build up

supposidly grooves allow temperatures to disperse hopefully lowering them

A missing question was why did you feel the need to up-grade the friction?

was a need in wanting to be able to stop

with upgraded power the brakes are starting to get jealous :)

Poxy brakes.... you did the right thing.... Jealousy has no home when the powerhouse is in charge.....

Stop quoting each other! It messes up my instant notification and I can't see the rest of the post in email :D

    Sorry Jon :) :) Couldn't resist

  4. Sorry i didn't finish!.. "janey" loves her motors--sideways... backwards... maxed-out on the rev's and a blur in any attempted picture :sad01_anim: she complained the "short-shift" takes to long so now uses the new "nano-shifter".... Last time at the Pod she was photo flashed at the finish line and she was "on the phone" .... Speed speed speed. janey's the same with pets. She got a dog "whippet" obviously... within a few weeks she wore it out?..... now the poor bloody thing looks like a Daschund.. Nowadays it models for "Wall's sausages". I asked her "have you had this dog long?" and she said "no it's always been this length" :sad01_anim:

Ahh you know me too well Tony

  5. Is this for drivers that are useless, or have otherwise given up on conventional racing? Sounds like something we tried to avoid as much as possible on hillclimbs as a waste of rubber and horsepower :sad01_anim: :sad01_anim:

*Aims brick in Tango's direction, just misses but will aim better next time*

Ahh but its all about tyre smoke - without the smoke its no fun :P and killing a clutch or two is all part of the fun

  6. Thought I'd have a look at this, I've done an autocross/sprint event and thoroughly enjoyed it so thought I'd have a look at what you need to do to do it 'seriously'

To compete in any Sprint or Hillclimb you must possess a current RAC Competition Licence. For events of Closed to Restricted status you must belong to one of the organising or invited clubs. For a National event there is no restriction on club membership but you must have a National or International Speed licence.

So you can't just sign up & turn up so to speak

Clothing is as for any serious motorsport - Approved Helmet, fireproof overalls (mandatory for speed events), gloves, balaclava.

Cars need to be fireproofed (sealed bulkheads between drivers compartment and fuel tank/filler and also the engine bay and any other holes etc) funnily enough a fire extinguisher is NOT mandatory although recommended

Minimum of 3pt harness if more than 1 seater car.

Roll Cage - Required for Racing and Sports Racing cars, also any closed car built after 1959 if fitted with lightened bodyshell (doors, bonnet, boot). Note when lightened doors are fitted - requirement for horizontal safety bar across door aperture. Not mandatory for any closed car with full strength bodyshell or road going production sports car, but is strongly recommended for any open car.

Seats fully secured (eg no old fashioned front tippers)

Fuel supply tap/switch must be fitted and must be operable from driving seat

Ignition switch - mandatory that it is boldly marked ON, OFF and must be operable by driver when strapped in.

Oil catch tanks - It is mandatory that if the engine or gearbox has any breathers to atmosphere they must be led to a 1 litre 'catch tank' to prevent spraying oil on the track

Timing strut - Mandatory requirement for breaking timing light beam

Wheel spacers if fitted mudt not exceed 1 inch thick & hub caps/knave plates etc must be removed.

And all the usual rules & regs - no loose bits which could fly around the car, lights taped, battery secured etc.

  7. I need a clue :P

What colour was it ?? :P

Actually i never set the car... another company phoned me and ask if these settings would perform the way the customer thought.... The answer was implicitly no!

OK I'll have another go....running on two wheels and/or performing doughnuts after the driver has left the car? :D

Spot on.... this car is intended for Donnington tomorrow (Sunday) The positions invite massive over-steer and will do nothing more than doughnuts on every corner (off)... Polar center away.... :D totally detrimental to the stable positions the customer thought would offer... Oh dear!

Thats interesting as there was quite a few spin offs at Donny today by the boys in the 5's one even went off into the tyre wall :D (luckily he & passenger ok and just cosmetic damage to the car)

  8. You constantly amaze me  such determination and understanding compounded with seamless ability... If Drift is your taste now then lets change the set-up 'BUT' remember this will make the car feel very insecure on domestic roads :(

Aww shucks Tony  (inserts embarrased smiley)

Trouble is I want to do a bit of everything (impractical I know) although I'm far more comfortable doing circly skids rather than bombing round a track, and Mabel is my daily drive too so I'm not sure how far we can go on the set up as I have a feeling the drive to work each day could end up being a little precarious  Maybe a test day is in order B)

Or......maybe its time for me to have nearly as many cars as Barrie

  9. mmm I think I am going to have to extensively question Declan :(

Please realise i am totally receptive to the logistics Declan offers but i feel there are gaps that i would love answered... Unfortunately in any form of competition a real advantage is rarely volunteered....

Anyhoo is Drift your flavour now?... if yes then we need to take the Nurburg set-up away and change Geometry shoes!

Must admit the set up didn't make things any easier and a tweek or two maybe in order, (along with a new diff :( ) but as you can see she did pretty well :D

  10. surely if we are talking about drifting on smooth tarmac areas then a slick or semi slick would afford more grip

a rally tyre would have less contact area, and being a hard compound would give less grip

    i think :(

Thats sounds logical :D Although the R700's do come in soft med & hard compounds

    It's Roadster specific apparently :(
