At least I make you cuppas all day & supply moral support along with the odd spanner or socket

The site is going offline in 2 days time so last chance to watch the WIM team in action!
Think you need to save it somewhere safe Rich - just so it can come out again next Crimbo

Also, any thoughts on the chassis bracing available? I.L. Motorsports, MazdaSpeed etc.
Bracing makes a big difference on handling & reduces the 'flex' that 5's are famous for but all depends on how far you want to go, - normally rear & front under chassis & a front strut brace is adequate - rear strut braces are hard to get hold of and cut down a lot on boot space. The iL M/sports stuff is generally good you can buy direct or 5 parts carry a lot of it.
If you fancy going the whole way this 5 peice brace set http://www.mx5parts.co.uk/product_info.php/products_id/1244 is available from 5 parts or direct from iL (may save depending on £ to Euro rates) http://www.ilmotorsport.de/shop/article_li...b834e21e4f1a8af

The centre next door is still empty ..... I have to admit we do get some glorious cars in, it costs me a fortune in batteries for the camera
mmm now I wonder if I can talk Barrie into a relocation would only be a 100m round trip each day
-
Wow just £40k....I'll take 2
Wish the garage opposite the office got some babies in like you do Tony, it would give me something to look at apart from the forums
-
Not an MX5.
Alright then I paid £1k and got that Silvia.
Not much difference then
Probably got more for your money - that 5 was high on miles & I'm guessing it had been abused a little (ok....lot ) and you ended up with a 'mans' car rather than a girly one

For some uncanny reason the pic of you Tony just doesn't want to upload ....think it maybe scared
-
So where's this video then...Janey!As bazza and myself blurred past the centre janey defo had some imaging going on..... But i was in full fear so it's possible i had my ugly face on and janey is just protecting everyone.
Although i could be wrong
Ermmmmmm....... what can I say - I did try taking a pic or two but he was just going to bloody fast & I missed him
Did take 2 pics of Tony in the passenger seat ...one with the door shut & window up - all I got due to sun & tints was a nice reflection of a tree 2nd one was taken with the door open just after the car had stopped, I think still on the camera, Barrie maybe keeping it for bribery purposes at a later date

Ahh well if you're now talking about the 2.0 Mk3 then I'm with your wife Terry
Hand it to Tony for coils, lowering &(as standard it looks like a boat) geo and I think both of you will be happy
@ Ellz...no offence taken (I'll just thump you when I see you next ) to be honest you'll be suprised that the majority of 5 drivers are actually men you get 3 types....the ones who love the 'classic' style and potter about at weekends & the ones who love the classic but also the handling & the ability to mildly mod & 'play' if you so wish, then you get he ones who mod it & shove a turbo or s/c on and play full time

You won't get the metal folding roof with the Mk2 Terry, only an option on the Mk3's. TBH it all depends on what she wants from the car - most of them 1's 2's 2.5's & 3's are all pretty bullet proof engine wise. The problem with the ones with vinyl or mohair roof's is that you have to maually put them up & down which means half the time you just can't be bothered, and when you do have them down for the day & it starts to get damp in for example the evening - they are a pain to put back up LOL I'm really selling this aren't I
To be honest if I'd had the choice....I would have gone for a S2000 (wouldn't say no even now)- performance & looks are far better that the 5
(waits to be stoned by 5 owners )

Nice pics & vids Ash
LOL those cones are getting tougher every day - cone bash rather than rash

Haven't bothered. The ebay car transpiried was an import and I don't feel like dealing with the issues that come from an import.
The ebay one (above) was a bargain !! Theres no hassles with them on import (in fact you get more for your money) the only thing is you won't have previous service history prior to import, its been damaged & repaired but still a great bargain at under 1K
The local one is still there but it rained allday on my day Tuesday just gone. Got a full weekend off so fingers crossed I'll get a good look.Good luck with the hunt - any link or pics to the local one ??

I've seen one for sal on Autotrader near where I work.
1.6
P-reg/96
Uk model
97k miles
White
looks tidy enough
Would that be a 90bhp model ? Doesn't appear to be a special edition.
On for £1200. I reckon £1k would be enough. Well, it would have to be as I don't want to spend anymore and would prefer an earlier model anyways.
Only just caught this one
Give it a month or so & the prices will be down even further
TBH I'd go for a Eunos if you could, get extra's like lekky, air con & usually a LSD - but guess if you're going to strip & uprate everything then a UK model is passable. The UK 1.6 will be 90bhp & the 'i' is 103 or 115 as a rule on an Eunos or some UK special editions (depending on who's figures you read ) if you went for 1.8 although its a little heavier you get 133bhp but in my opinion the 1.6 is just a quick and the lighter the better.
Main things to check for are:
Sills, arches, dodgy mods, panel gaps, tick, tick, ticking after warm up or just being a bit too loud for comfort - check oil if ok then walk away unless you fancy paying out lots of £££££
Check how high up the clutch biting point is, as it could be a sign that it is on it's way out
Boot - check for leakage and/or evidence (mould and/or smell etc) of puddles, same for foot wells, doors etc as having to redo the seals is a PITA. 5's have which can get bunged up which means that you'll get water inside - generally easily cleaned out with a bit of thin flex/wire - feel under the sill just in front of the rear arches - there will be a small hole - stick finger up it - if it comes out clean then theyre ok if you get a muddy smelly finger they need clearing out
Check roof & rear window for cracks/splits - best to put the roof up and down & make sure all is right and dandy with the fixings
Best forum for advice & to see what's what (and unlike the officical MX5 club who are NOT modification friendly) is MX5Nutz. For track/drift/sprint days go to the motorsport section on the MX5Owners club where you'll find like minded loons
The 5 is a great little car & loads of fun too on road or track.....and geometry wise a total dream

Think bush install would be a good one as its one of those things that not a lot of peeps would tackle themselves due to fear of breaking something and it can be quite tricky, plus it would help push/show the advantages of poly over rubber etc.

Great news Tony ~You'll be making lots of boat owners very happy
-
Thats a heck of a lot of boxes to get through, I'm presuming Mat's got a short shift
Best bet apparently is to get rid of the short shift & use a s14a sandwich plate and run thicker gear oil

52/2002
25,000 miles
yours for £8950
Barie i know someone who wants one so i'll let him know but he may reject it coz of the year.
What's the tax like on these?
At the moment its £220 ish a year

Thats excellent......if only certain corsa's & nova's had to have that by law
phew thats me safe then
Hehehe yep only the Chavtastic Vauxhalls need to take heed
-
Just a small grumble.....My front rims look undertyred with their 225/35/19 Toyo T1-R's's so have been waiting to change them for 235/35/19's. Problem is Tony, we've done such a good job on monitoring the geometry and tyre pressures that the 225's aren't wearing out. Still have bags of tread left after 20K. The rears are wearing marginally quicker, but even so they probaly have another 5-10K on them still.
I bet everyone wishes they got complaints like yours Terry
Just goes to show what a good set up can save you I guess

Congrats nice to see another car in the stable

Well for starters.... you shouldn't have bought a Mk3 (sorry couldn't resist)
TBH on a serious note, there are a few 'problems' with the Mk3's 'boat like' tendancies and your best bet is to take the trip up to Tony
Interesting project going on.......

LOL the guy is an absolute loon albeit an excellent driver watching him go round is great - though I'm hoping his hand has healed ready for this season after I slammed it in the Starlets door last time out
