  1. No rush Tony, it's unusable as it sits so I won't be missing it.
  2. Progress! The car is now wired up and runs. About 30% of the interior is back in. I should be able to get it to you any time on Saturday. What time would work best for you?
  3. Oh it's not too bad. I was visiting friends and karting over the weekend, so it's a pleasant way to not finish something. The interior won't take long. It's been out so many times now I can literally put it back together in pitch blackness. Soldering is a bit more tricky as it takes two extension leads to reach across the garden into the car park. Not ideal when it's raining!
  4. Didn't get the immobiliser wiring sorted this weekend. Hopefully I can do it tomorrow. Only one pair of joints left to solder. After that I just need to put the interior back together.
  5. Now I just need to pump up the tyres, rebuild the interior, update the insurance and I can get it out to you!
  6. It's disappointing certainly, but I still have all my arms & legs. If we hadn't found the self-detaching track rod end it may not have turned out this well!
  7. Depends what you find and what the cost to correct it is. At the moment I'm just aiming to get it to a state where I can get it to you. I need to sort the corrosion just enough that I can re-attach the passenger wing properly. Don't want it flapping about as I drive. It may still have a short but interesting life as a track / drag strip car if it's fixable. Shame as it was always planned to be a cherished example, but there we go!
  8. Current condition... Got a set of standard wheels on the way. One less variable to cloud the diagnostic that way. Now I just need to figure out the corrosion problems!
  9. Only on the left sill for some reason. The rest of the car doesn't have a mark on it. Frustrating! I'm wondering if it's had a shunt at some point and someone welded in a replacement sill. That being a non-OEM part has decayed far faster than the rest of the car.
  10. That's right. It bends the tabs on the washers back. May have a small problem getting it to you. I've removed the body kit now and it seems that the front passenger wing is actually held in place by the body kit. With that missing it flaps around loose. Need to figure out how to re-attach it as the original mounts have rusted beyond use.
  11. Knew I had one somewhere... This is a picture of the lock washer holding the Track Rod End on before it worked loose. The other side (hidden from view) is bent over in the same way and there are two tabs that lock into a milled slot in the face of the steering rack. It all looked fairly secure to me, especially as the only thing it's connected to (the track rod) is on a free-twisting ball joint which cannot possibly apply torque to unbolt it..
  12. Ok thanks, I'd love to know what's wrong with it. I'll try and make sure I don't kill it before the weekend. The steering is off because I'd just replaced the steering rack and hadn't had the tracking done before taking that video. I actually re-did the tracking myself "by eye" after that video as I've paid out £150 in three weeks having professionals re-do it every time I change a part. That's why it's out in the scan I posted earlier, it was my own work..
  13. Here are some vids. They really don't do it justice. http://i8.photobucket.com/albums/a24/alanwmrt/26297A27-E6FD-4A95-AEF9-50DC81D945F3-321-0000001DACF9956B_zps6318e6aa.mp4 http://i8.photobucket.com/albums/a24/alanwmrt/26297A27-E6FD-4A95-AEF9-50DC81D945F3-321-0000001DACF9956B_zps1ae22063.mp4 http://i8.photobucket.com/albums/a24/alanwmrt/C615F5C6-02A5-4E4C-AD0D-83E8197DEFC8-1628-0000023C41DB8B44_zpsa654ff67.mp4 I'm selling off quite a few parts of the car now to free up cash. When you get to see it the car will probably have standard wheels and tyres on which seems to damp the effect quite noticeably compared to 17s and low profile tyres. The shake is still very much alive and well. I do have an additional problem. While stripping it I discovered a fair amount of rust on the passenger sill. There's only one tiny hole so it isn't structural, but the cost of repair is already very large. I'll I'm saying is that the car is now sat on worn and rusty suspension parts from another 18 year old vehicle (the donor car I mentioned) with significant chassis rust to treat and partially stripped interior. It's basically a write-off. If you're keen to have a look just for the satisfaction of solving this then I'm happy to supply the car, but I very much doubt I'll be spending money to repair it. Thanks very much for the offer either way!
  14. That's certainly an odd one! My current approach is to strip off any and every non-essential part of the car for sale. Once that's done I'll treat the rust (later today) and tidy it up. It'll still be legal to drive (albeit it'll be a dedicated track day car owing to lack of interior, sound system etc). I can then run it up when mutually convenient. If you can save it you'll; a - be my personal hero b - be a hero on the owners club and c - have saved a reliable and powerful car with a particularly unusual factory specification from an undeserved fate. Would be amazing to know what caused this..
  15. Found a lot of rust on the passenger sill today when I took the body kit off. Nothing structural though, so there goes another line of enquiry. I'm not sure when I'll be able to get the car to you Tony, my next six weekends are booked. May just have to let it die.
  16. I commute to work by train, the car is just a toy so there's no hard limit. Let me see if I can get to you (and get back!). I'll let you know ASAP. Thanks!
  17. I'm happy to run it up to you today and leave it with you? I just can't keep throwing money into it!
  18. Well it's not the caster... I didn't get them to sort it. Seems to be scrap.
  19. Agreed Tony, can't imagine how a couple of degrees makes the car unbolt itself. Found a local place who will have a go today so I'll report back in a few hours.
  20. Everyone on the MR2 club has gone a little mental since I posted that print. They seem to think that it may be a problem... [/understatement] Guess this is why it pays to go to companies like WIM... Don't suppose you're having any emergency sessions tomorrow Tony?
  21. For some reason I've lost the ability to edit the post above. This is the "before" geo. I double-copied the "after" above.
  22. This is the "before sheet from 2011 a few months after I bought the car. This is the "after" sheet. Looks like I mis-remembered the geo being ok... In my defence I doubt that those readings would have the car falling apart? As noted above, the dramatic improvement in geo made no difference at all to the shake.
  23. I don't I'm afraid. I might still have the sheet at home. I'll take a look tonight.
