eddie
they have a special pattern so you have to put the drivers side/passengers side on properly so the pattern spins right?

P4UL T
The cut outs in the wheel face are angled and direct air to aid cooling?

Tony
You got it....So did eddie really since they are handed... Basically the wheels ram-vent the brakes...The first to do this if i'm correct was the rally Audi Quattro..
eddie
learned something new today!
Tony
I'll tell you something odd though?.....F1 wheels don't vent the brakes
Viking
On an F1 car, aerodynamics are more important. Diverting airflow laterally through the wheels is very inefficient when you're looking for absolute airflow efficiency, so the brakes are cooled via ducted airflow taken from just the right place to provide the correct characteristics for a given car. No need for cooling via the wheels. For this reason they always pop a blower onto the cooling ducts whenever a car comes back into the pits to stop the brakes from overheating. Tony
I totally agree.... F1 caters for a known stable airflow via the ducting..In fact i would think ducting via the wheel could add drag?
Rich
What a good idea. What car are they from?
Tony
A track originated BMW....I should think it vents the brakes to stop brake fade.
Tango
Same as the Lexus ISF, each wheel has its own corner due to staggered width and blade direction. You often see them incorrectly fitted with the thicker section of the blades trailing when they should be leading (with the wheel rotating clockwise, of course),
Tony
Hasn't the ISF also got ducting off the grill to focus cooling.... Very few OEM cars today have handed wheels, only Lancia and Lambo come to mind.

Tony
Just as important as induction, the heat has to go somewhere.
