If you don't protect your wheels with some kind of sealant then brake dust, tar and iron will be difficult to remove without agitation IME. I always work the cleaner in with a brush before rinsing it off but then I only seal my wheels before I swap them over for winter/summer so it doesn't last all of that time.

Possibly not a good car for the demo...

 

I could swear that I saw the rust bubbles above the front bumper getting bigger!

 

I've used a couple of spray-on, rinse & brush off cleaners - yhere hasn't been one (so far) that I'd noted as being better.
