BMW E90 suspension?

Afternoon all :o

 

New here, but not to forums or tweaking cars generally. I've gone back quite a way through the forum and found nothing that really came close to what I wanted, so here goes.

 

I have a 2007 BMW 330d MSport tourer. Suspension is standard at the moment, apart from having ditched the godawful runflat tyres last summer - which was a great improvement! I plan to eventually change quite a lot of the suspension to aftermarket or parts robbed from the M3 - front wishbones and tension struts, ARBs, rear subframe bushes and so on - for 3 reasons:

 

Firstly, to lower slightly. And I mean slightly - the standard rear arch clearance is exactly right IMO, but the front sits 15-20mm higher in relation to the rear.

Secondly, to try and dial out the inherent understeer.

Third, because it's got nearly 100k miles on the clock already, so I reckon that justifies some 'preventative maintenance' :lmaosmiley:

 

First on the list is the suspension itself. I'm looking for some advice from people who know what they're talking about B) I've done lowering spring on standard shocks, and lowering springs with uprated shocks in the past, so I have an idea of where I want to be.

 

This is a big, heavy, estate car. I don't plan to track it (although anything's possible!), this is just for enthusiastic road driving. Is there any benefit going for coilovers as opposed to a matched spring & damper set? In terms of cost alone, KW offer a spring & damper combo for around £600. I can fit it myself, have a geo setup and be done. The most basic, height adjustable only, coilovers from AP are £700, but while I can fit them myself, they would need setting up somewhere, and then a geo setup on top of that probably putting the cost nearer £1k - and that's without adjustable dampers, which are one of the main advantages of coilovers, right?
