andyelcomb
Ok, been meaning to ask this for ages. Why is it that when I see a car with a brake light out it is more often than not (I reckon a good 75%) that it's the left bulb that has blown? Is it something to do with the wiring? Its driving me nuts and now I'm seeing them all over the place. Also seeing quite a few cars with both regular bulbs blown and just the centre LED brake light working. Have a look yourselves as you drive about and see if you agree with me.

Im guessing its because its coz of the current..might be the first to recieve the current but then over time the filliment gets old and cant handle the initial surge so blows first.?? Rich
I'm always seeing cars with blown bulbs, does my head in, especially headlights. I was behind a woman last month and none of her brake lights worked, all 3! At first I thought she was engine braking until we had to stop complately, nope didn't light up! What annoys me more is those who have bad contacts so when they brake the indicators comes on, or indicate and the reverse lights flash instead etc.

Rich
Not just French cars, ours never did that. I've seen plenty of other makes with the issue though.
parthiban
Interestingly our old S-class and A3 both had a similar problem - can't remember which side it was that went but there was one side that kept blowing on a regular basis but the other side never blew in the whole time we owned the cars. andyelcomb
think you mean French cars I think its 50-50 as to what light blows havent seen any kind of trend around here Don't know about French, but do know that my Lancia Delta had a rear earth problem that was traced to the earth strap being connected to the boot floor, but the floor wasn't connected to anything else... Of course the classic car for bad earths was the 80's FWD Escorts as water would get into the rear light clusters. So, you reckon 50-50 do you? I challenge you to keep a log and see if you think the same after a week or so!
rooflessdriver
Of course the classic car for bad earths was the 80's FWD Escorts as water would get into the rear light clusters. Was following an 04 plate RX8 to work this morning in the rain and noticed the OSR light cluster was half full with water. Probably enough to put a goldfish in and use as a bowl! rooflessdriver
I've mow been looking and have also noticed more cars with nearside brake light out and have a theory. The nearside of the car takes more impacts with drains, man hole covers and potholes, so maybe this has an effect on a filament?
Tony
Good theory
