I can't honestly seeing a self respecting tea-leaf stealing a set of unknown steelies!

Yeah but he reckons they cleared the whole lockup! :sad01_anim: I've not replied to him yet, might just keep an eye and see if he relists...if he does negative feedback time!

Rich what are you putting in the search box on ebay to find them? I played around with my search this afternoon and cam up with quite a lot of sets of four, but most are 4 stud and I need 5.

Ford 15"

Ford 14"

Ford wheels

Ford alloys

Ford rims

Then replace Ford with Mondeo, Focus and Escort...yeah loads of 4 stud not many 5 ones though unless you wanna spend £££.

This is my latest one:

(mondeo, focus) (wheel, wheels) -nut -nuts -stud -studs -bolt -bolts -trim -trims -steering -hub -centre -centres -bearing -bearings

Maybe we can get a combination, note if you put two words in brackets with a comma between it works as an OR. so for yours:

Ford (15,14,wheel,wheels,alloy,alloys,rim,rims)

should combine all the searches, I've found putting in the " for inches excludes some.

The guy who was selling the wheels I won that got nicked has left me positive feedback and still no sign of him relisting but have the auction on my watch list just in case. Have you found any wheels yet SMARTLY?

No, still looking but not even any reasonably priced ones on there at the minute.

In the meantime I've been trying to price up some winter tyres for 16" and 17" wheels and the best prices I've seen so far are £120 and £170 - so I'm starting to think it's not a good idea. I was expecting £50 or £60 for a winter tyre

Are these prices right Tony?

Also been looking at socks today but most places they are out of stock, still snow not bad here ( yet ? ) so not urgent.

If you are after a set of 15" steelies for a Ford Focus 5 stud, I still have mine which didn't fit my car, but they are genuine Ford Focus ones so depending on your individual car parts (mainly the front caliper), you can buy them off me. Happy to let you borrow one for a trial fit as long as you are willing to get to Northampton.

Still don't get why they don't fit, maybe the sports pack? Since early make Focus (05-06) have 15" on LX spec I think, and the new Econetics have 15" as well.

Don't think it's the sports pack as that doesn't change brakes. I suspect the cars with 15" wheels have different calipers. As mine came with 17" wheels it seems you can go down to !6" but not 15" due to the calipers. So probably only the base models will allow the 15" wheels on ( econetic only in the current model range, as all the others are 16" and above ).

You can, but they will wear out ( reports say in a maximum of 40 miles ). So to me you use them to get to the gritted road and then stop when it's safe and remove them. Or if you get stuck, put them on to get moving then remove when you are clear. They should only take about a minute to put on and take off so I'll give it a go in the next few days so I know how to do it.

I can't see me doing that TBH, it's going to be tough enough trying to get home without stopping to take them off and back on. Be interested to know how long it takes you to fit them though :)

That ebay link you gave me they went for £343!!! :o Could get them cheaper brand new, providing Tony can still get winter tyres.

Bit extreme mate! I've been keeping an eye on his auctions and he hasn't relisted them, gave me positive feedback though and didn't ask me to mutally agree to cancel the sale so he still would've paid final fees as well.

Wow, that's a lot even with the tyres.

I'll let you know how long the socks take to fit ............. providing you have got snow / slush will be OK to drive on them but if it's tarmac you need to stop & take them off IMHO. The way I look at it is if I get stuck it's worth the cost of them to keep going and get home / to work rather than sitting in the car for hours for help.

They were only 15" as well, alloys worth about £50 so that's just over £73 each per used tyre!!

Thinking back to the start of the year when I got stuck for 3 hours trying to get home it was all slush as they didn't grit, so I would get away with it then. Trouble is you've still got to sit in the traffic unless these can get you up hills ok and through the country lanes...could you imagine trying to drive up Loudwater Lane if you remember how steep that is?
