Rich
I know braking distance increases when you don't have much tread left but do new tyres do the same until they've scrubbed in? The missus thinks her brakes are too soft/not stopping quick enough. I've been out in the car tonight and it does take a while from speed to slow the car down. But I'm use to ABS so I'm not too sure meself
Tony
Depends on perspective.... The brakes work the same regardless but the new tyres need a suede like texture for optimum traction ( excluding heat ) so the feeling of new tyres might appear that the brakes are not working properly. Only done around 100 miles since the tyres were fitted so I will keep an eye on it.
Tony
This is why specialist tyres for the high end marque's have specific fitments?..... The top layer is like pencil rubber to ensure immediate grip is available... All lesser marques have to scrub the tyre in.
dazz33
A few wheels spins normally sorts it out.. :cool02:

I guess having to scrub tyres in on a Ferrari will be abit dodgy!
dazz33
I got some alloys for my corsa recently and needed 4 new tyres from WIM ...I went for Avon ZV5.... At first they where a little skittish, and had to brake sooner but now they have done approx 400 miles they are excellent tyres, very stable on the car at speed and braking and im really happy with the grip in the dry and the wet and they are very quiet which im chuffed about..... I'm getting some new tyres for mine, just some budget ones though. Mine are on the limit now and I've noticed my braking distance has increased as well. A good thrash will help yeah but no chance of wheel spinning mine or the pug!! I've noticed the car pulls up abit sooner now the tyres have a few miles on them though. If the tyre is locking too early, or the ABS is cutting in then the tyres are still bedding in. That said, 100 miles should be enough to scrub a new tyre in... Car doesn't have ABS...the braking has improved since I started this so must've been the tyres although I will try locking them and see what happens. hms
Aren't new tyres covered in a release agent to enable the tyre to seperate from the mould when being manufactured?. Takes a few miles for this to wear off also. h
