what about a clue ;)

Can anyone see a problem... The symptoms are no brake pressure on the initial pump..... but pressure available on the second pump....Your thoughts.

The disc is so worn down it has a 5 mm lip, hence the reason there is no pressure on the first pump is because the pistons have to travel so far ....... or am i wrong ;)

In your example the peddle to remain soft until the new pads adopt the shape of the worn disks, but i see exactly where you are coming from.

looks like a lot of copper grease there ?

is the spring in the second pic fitted wrong at the bottom ;)

Winner...... yep the NSF rattle spring is incorrectly fitted... What we have is a floating calliper and a rattle retaining spring that is meant to pull down on the calliper with the spring captive under the caliper carrier.

This chap had fitted the spring in a fashion that lifts the caliper when not braking, pushing the piston back into the caliper, hence the initial loss of pedal pressure.... I was dealing with this via email prior to seeing the car and i admit i was in 'heady scratchy world' until i saw that spring.... then i was in 'no wonder world' ;)

Well spotted Master B. and indeed team wim

i had a similar problem on a peugeot 406 estate today, except on the rears, the rattle spring is suposed to sit on the inside of one pad and the outside of another. the car came in with no pedel on the first pump then good brakes. because the clip was inside both pads. pushing them back towards the caliper and pushing the piston in.
