The mobile phone random photo thread!

Recommended Posts

No filters used here, just straight point and shoot from my phone. I have resized the images to fit them on here...

Really is pretty and the people are wonderful and friendly, however you do need to keep a keen eye out for the wild dogs as they can be a bit of a nuisance at times..

Also some of the roads are mega steep here, its not unusual to find a 40% gradient slope in town,

Looks great Adam 🙂

Here's some from Norfolk!

Did some walks a long the beach.

The in-laws dog enjoyed it too!

Erosion is very bad now, this is the Marrams Road and there is more or less no dune left, just a drop down to the beach. I remember 20 years a go these dunes were 30ft high at least. This gate was the start of someone's driveway to their chalet!

So when are you moving there?

Bit close to the front but there's a plot of land for sale with utilities, 24ft x 110ft right on the coast for sale. Self build? Not sure of the price. It's further around into The Wash on Heacham beach. Not sure if that's anywhere you would like to be. It's a few miles from Hunstanton. HERE on google maps.

I suspect the erosion isn't bad there but if the currents change it could be the same.

May be an image of outdoors

Next year hopefully but it all depends on what the job situation will be. It could take me a long time to find something.

We'll more than likely move to Norwich or ideally just outside of it but the villages are more expensive. As much as I would love to wake up with a sea view I would never buy right on the coast. I don't think the erosion is as bad along that part but I'd still be weary.

This is the other end of the Marrams Road where it has started falling on to the beach! Crazy! ☹️

Yep, you can see all of the construction site from where you used to live! If you remember the water ski lake on the way to Denham they have ripped down all of the trees by the road exposing it.

My FIL works for HS2, he's been telling me how they transport the concrete sections and other construction stuff. It's pretty amazing even though it's also so destructive!

Forgot to say those sections are 70-90 tonnes each and they're building it straight over the ski lake and River Colne.

I swear more and more lights are being added to the HS2 construction site. Here's a photo of it from my road! 👎

Lots of people living nearer the site complain of a constant humming noise all night, it must drive them mad!

The missus has heard it from here a few times but only faintly.

I wonder how this has affected nearby property prices. Although the route is quite rural it's still passing by some homes.

I don't know if anyone has seen Hemsby on the news the last couple of days but they've taken another battering over the weekend. More homes are going to be lost and many more at risk, especially if any more of the Marram road goes. I really don't know how Lance can live on the edge of sand dune that could collapse at any moment! 😐

Such a shame. I take it he owned it years before he moved there in 2017 as he wouldn't have bought it Not that it matters, he is still in the same position. I assume Insurance companies won't cover as it's been happening for a while?

I don't think I'd be nipping out with a torch to check... especially if the water washes away around the house to the side! 🤯

I saw a couple of videos and many pictures in the last few days of Hemsby, somewhere in Somerset where they have permanently closed the coastal road due to erosion and also a place up north somewhere - it's not good :(

No he bought it in 2017, paid £50k I think. He was told it should last the rest of his days from the survey he had done. At the time there was still a lot of dune left at the end of his garden. A few months after buying it we had the beast from the east and the tidal surge took a big chunk of the dune leaving a shear drop at the back of his garden.

While other houses got demolished he paid a farmer to wrap a chain around it and drag it back so the front door is now more or less on the road! He then spent loads refurbishing it. Since then more of the dunes have been eroded so he put the blocks at the base to help the sand build up. That's the only reason it's still there. I definitely wouldn't be living there never mind nipping out with torch! 🤔

As with all of the properties along there they are not standard construction and being on the coast means cash buyers only and I doubt they can get insurance.

Since the weekend a few properties that were up for sale have been reduced. Some are still ridiculously priced for the condition they are in or something that will be in the sea very soon. Once the road goes there are several properties that will lose access too.

Although a couple of those bungalows were bought in recent years, which IMO wasn't a great idea, others have been owned for years. Decades a go there were 5 or 6 rows of dunes all with bungalows on them and this is the last row. I think some of those residents have been there 30 years so it's very sad for them.

Also with the road at the other end at risk of collapsing that means the properties there are going to be condemned as emergency services can't get through. One of them was refurbished last year too!

This footage really shows how bad the damage is. I remember walking along that road 25 years a go and then up 20ft plus sand dunes and down the other side to get on the beach.

Lance started pulling his house back today, it's going where the shrubs were on the other side of the road. How much longer he'll get is anyone's guess!

Absolutely awful for the poor people. Especially with that access road now blocked which will clearly fall any minute.

Must be really annoying knowing across the water from them are the masters of land reclamation from the sea.

Took a walk along there earlier. He's pulled the house all the way back but suffered a lot of damage.

They've finished putting some rocks in front of the dune by the gap to protect the access road. I don't think it'll help but we'll see. Apparently planning for proper defences has been approved but they need £15 million to fund it.

Yes this is a glass bottle and that's why people should keep off the dunes. Not just to protect them but also prevent injuring themselves!
