markj
Hi Which type of tyre is generally the quietest on the road? Not make or model but type. Is it A standard symmetrical tyre? An asymmetric tyre? Or a directional tyre? Assuming that overall grip is not the issue. Mark
Tony
They all are depending on the make... Some specifically claim to be quiet and they are asymmetric.
jon
Tyre noise largely comes from block design and compounding, so as Tony correctly pointed out, the quietest tyre is the one designed to be so.

Any downside there jon...... meaning is a "claimed to be quite" tyre historically quick wearing or other?

Any downside there jon...... meaning is a "claimed to be quite" tyre historically quick wearing or other? Too many variables in the design to automatically say a quiet tyre doesn't grip/wear well etc. In my experience the only semi constant seems to be quiet tyres offer less feedback as the shoulders and walls are inherently softer to absorb noise.
