Tony
How can it without witness marks?....
SMARTLY
Yep, but genuine it seems https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/JetBlue_Flight_292 although it doesn't explain why the wheels broke / wore down. This is what happened:
Tony
Wow that's one hell of a pilot.
SMARTLY
It's lucky he could pick LA International airport to land at with a long runway, so no air brakes and keep the nose up as long as possible
Tony
You can see he was slowing down until the last minute... Very talented.
Geoffers
Imagine what was going through the passenger and crew minds. Especially those who watch Aircraft investigation and seen bad outcomes of landings with faulty gears. 4 hours ago, Tony said: How can it without witness marks?.... Do you mean on the ground? It's been moved. You can tell by the proximity of the grass as well as the lack of any marks. They clear and repair the runways as quickly as possible. JamesV70R
I don't think that pic can be from JetBlue 292 as this picture is of the main gear, not the nose gear, and the JetBlue aircraft is blue on the bottom where this is white? I can't find what flight it IS from though .. !
Geoffers
Good point never noticed that. Looks like THIS incident
Rich
Am I looking at that right and the rims have actually worn halfway down? Surely metal is harder than tarmac, wouldn't it have chewed it up instead?
Geoffers
Tarmac is only a general term on runways. The larger ones are concrete, some with a relatively thin asphalt layer. I think it's de Gaulle or Orly airport in Paris who change one big slab of concrete every single night then by the time they have finished, start again at the beginning so there is no disruption. So many people are saying it's that. I didn't even notice until James said - he's the observant one
JamesV70R
I'd like to think the maintenance guys have those wheels mounted on a wall in the workshop somewhere - makes for a great almost unbeleivable story!
Tony
It was lucky the tyres had gone, reducing the chance of fire.
