Monkstar
Hi Guys, I have been on a Transporter T6 forum and was advised to ask on here about my issue. I have a 2017 T6 long wheel base transporter Kombi van. It is on 20" BBS wheels and has been lowered 40mm on Eibach springs. I have had the van from new and it wears its tyres quite badly. I have had it on a Hunter 4 wheel alignment rig a few times at the local Kwik fit. But because the van has been altered, they don't seem to know the best settings for it. I know that a Transporter T6 does'nt have rear camber and caster adjustment, but the angle of toe can be adjusted. The rears scrub the most the outside edge, suggesting that the wheel is toed in, particularly on the offside rear. Resulting in me chewing back tyres, which is expensive. Is anyone able to tell me what the settings for the van with this set up should be? Or reccomend a place to go that will know the settings. It also wears the front outers more than inners too - but not as badly as the rears. The van is racked out and I carry a medium load most of the time. Tools and materials - I am a builder. Any advice would be greatly appreicated. Adrian
Tony
H Adrian Problem you have here is the overall camber position and the fact the wheel off-set is wrong. We do have adjusters for the front camber and castor... Is it possible you can post an image from the last geometry printout
Monkstar
Hi Tony, Thanks so much for such a prompt response. I'm sorry to say, that after a fairly thorough search, I have decided I must have chucked the print out away - which I know is pretty unhelpful. I don't pretend to understand much about wheel geometry. Given that the rears are the worst, can the rear problem be resolved? Or can I just fix the front. The front actually isn't AS terrible after the last adjustment - but I have attached a picture of the tyres that were removed from the front a few weeks ago and you'll see the wear I am getting. The heavy wear is on the outside edge and the one in the picture is the nearside. Not sure if that helps at all. I'd obviously ideally like them to wear evenly - Is that just unrealistic given the mods? Tyres are 275/40/20 106Y XL Dunlop quatromaxx on the rear - and the recent fronts are the new version, now called the sportmaxx. Wheels are 20" BBS XA - 20 x 9.5" 5x120/N ET42 Do you work on geometry i assume? - you're obviously very knowledgable. Thanks again for your help. Much appreciated. Tony
The wear looks very wide for camber..... The T6 does have adjustable rear toe which if wrong will involve more tread than camber. In addition the car does have natural rear camber meaning there will always be an element of camber wear.
Monkstar
Wouldn’t camber wear be on the inside edges? Rather than the outside? as you say - I’m sure the rear toe is well off - which is the bulk of the problem. what do you recommend I do? Can you fix it? cheers
Tony
If you look at it the inner tread is suffering..... With your car we would apply a bespoke setting due the mods applied.
Monkstar
The wear is on the outside edge NOT the inside. The yellow box is the area on the near side front wheel outer edge. Visible when the wheel is on the van. Not on the inner most edge under the van. I think that you believe this is the edge furthest under the van. It’s not. It’s outside. The same happens front and back.
Tony
Was the geometry tested after the lowering coils were fitted?
Monkstar
Yes - twice. But it was done by Kwik Fit. And they didn’t seem to know what settings to use for the modified van
Tony
It needs to be pulled down and the toe migration noted. Then lifted again watching the migration, then divided to find the centre point. Point to note the geometry datum on every car/ van is a "suggestion". Monkstar
Great - makes perfect sense. what would you charge to do it? and where do I have to come to? thanks
Tony
Well the desire with all cars is a dynamic 0 toe. Compressing the suspension then relaxing it opens the dynamic set of motion numbers, this cannot be predicted.until the car/ van is measured. Rich
WIM is in Chesham, Bucks so not too far from Hampshire depending on where you are. Definitely worth the drive there https://www.wheels-inmotion.co.uk/contact-blackboots.php

Tony
I think we needed to install adjustable bushings.
Monkstar
Hey Guys. This is an old post. Tony adjusted the van and made things far better. I’ve now sold it. But when I get a new one, I’ll be back to WIM to have some adjustable bushings. As soon as the lowering and wheel changing commences! Thanks guys. Tony
Gareth is the man at the centre to speak to.... He's taken charge of the T6 and the bushings. Thanks to a head on crash ( not my fault ) i'm not at work at the moment.

Colin Gravenor
Hi All... Please can you help. On this subject I'm nearly buying a T6, but a noise I picked up is feathering on the inside edge of the rear tyres. They Re standard Continentals on 17" Danbury wheels.. The dealer wants to put new tyres on but I suspect the rear aligbment is out.. Is there an option to correct it or shall I walk away please.. Thanks very much
