Rich
On the way to work this morning a 4x4 had broken down, the OSF wheel was right up inside the arch and that corner was practically on the road. It was still there when I came home so they obviously don't have breakdown cover! What can cause the suspension to just collapse like that, broken lower arm or ball joint? Scary to think that could've happened at speed!
Tony
Broken coil or burst airbag..... On most cars the helix would drop 30mm.
Rich
I think this was more than a broken coil, it was almost touching the ground so had dropped more than 30mm. I'll have to see if the dashcam picked it up.
adam_r
Maybe broken hub or snapped suspension arm?
Tony
If the arm was broken it would be undrivable,,,,, I think the coils are pig-tailed meaning the top/ bottom helix tend to snap which changes the trim height by 30mm for each helix. Rich
It was undriveable, hence it had been left on the road all day. That's why I don't think it was a spring but an arm. I have been do busy this last week I've not had time to check my dashcam. I guess you wouldn't even get a warning if an arm broke, it would just go. Tony
It's very rare the arm would brake.... if a knuckle broke then there would have been plenty of banging and clonking prior to the failure.
