tmparry01
Hi Guys, In a straight line, at normal speeds, when I drive over wet manhole covers/ripple bumps, as one of the rear wheels passes over the area of reduced grip the car shimmies at the rear and thrusts slightly to the side of least grip. I had this on an A4 a few years ago, the problem went away when I reduced rear toe. Could the issue be the same.... Too much rear toe.....or is this typical of a 4WD (albeit part time)? Tony
Hello and welcome to the forum. Reads very much like there's a toe issue. Toe is the longitudinal position and when wrong it gives lateral deflection making the car unstable. If the rear has independent suspension then the toe would be adjustable. This also means by design VW knew the toe position would change. If the rear has a beam then the toe can still be adjusted by moving the beam, it's unofficial but possible nevertheless. Viking
On a Golf R the rear axle is centre diff & driveshafts as it's 4x4.
Tony
Meaning it must have independent suspension at the rear..... That's a good thing.
