Tony
50% great idea, 50% total idiot.
phipck
I’ve seen these before, nothing wrong with the tech but a lot wrong with their estimation of distance required for safe lift off
Tony
The method seems very efficient but by god the critical part seems to be lacking. Obviously this vid is tainted but i really fail to see how they were going to navigate?
phipck
The same as all gliding parachutes, there’s controls on the chutes supporting ropes/strings. Pull one side go left pull the other go right and a combination for various manoeuvres. the issue here was his runway was too short
Tony
Once airborne control should have been a factor..... Fact is the actual feat was superb, it;s the result that failed.
phipck
Chris Harris on TopGear flew in one. I’m sure YouTube has clips, they’re an acquired taste! The problem is elevation, they didn’t have enough runway to get the height they needed, poor planning
Tony
Poor indeed..... Do you think they can actually steer the chute like a glider?
phipck
absolutely, it’s simply heavyweight paramotoring. Paragliding is a well established thing, popping a fan on the back is also a well established thing. A small cart with fan is less popular but still a thing and this is just taking it to extremes. But as with most things an increase in mass results in a decrease in agility
Tony
As a fad it looks like fun but there're obvious disadvantages. The runway is way to short so as an adventure it was really badly planned. It looked like a serious impact so i hope no one was seriously hurt but i can't belay the feeling i need to wag a finger at someone.
Rich
Definitely needed a longer runway! There's a guy who lives near me that does paramotoring. It must be great being up in the sky like that but I'm not sure it's for me!
Tony
Control is the key i think,,,, I mean I'm not keen on these types of adventures but if i have control of the outcome it would consider a wider exploration.
