Rich
I might not even get them for this year as we've only got 3 months of winter left but if I do I can't decide what to get. If the car hadn't of come with new/fairly new tyres I probably would've tried the Michelin cross climate, they get very good reviews and it would save swapping wheels over. Lexus recommend the Yokohama's but I think I could get better for the money looking at the reviews. I don't want to spend too much as the car won't do a lot of mileage but then I don't want some cheap LingLong budget tyre. They're a 215/45/17 V so my options are limited compared to other sizes. I've always read good things about Nokian and the reviews for the A3 are very good but they've been replaced with the A4 now, which hardly have any reviews. They also have an asymmetrical tread pattern, which I've hated so far on summer tyres, they tramline too much. Is this the same for all tyres with this tread pattern? The Nokian A3 are in stock on Oponeo but I'm wondering just how old these would be if the A4 has replaced them. The Falken 449 get good reviews and are £74 delivered. The Hankook i cept Evo 2 (we have the summer version on the car now) are £84 and reviews seem good but they're an asymmetrical pattern. Then there are Dunlop, Goodyear, Michelin etc but they'll be well over £500 for four tyres. The Nokian A3 are in stock on Oponeo but I'm wondering just how old these would be if the A4 has replaced them. I've also seen these but they're old stock made in 2011, would any one chance buying them? https://www.tyreleader.co.uk/car-tyres/dunlop/sp-winter-sport-m3/215-45-r17-91v-146121
Tango
I have Pirelli SottoZeros on the IS200 and cannot fault them.
Tony
Certainly looks like a winter tyre What are they like price wise?
Rich
In my size they'd be around £130 a tyre with fitting but only in a H rating and I need a V. What do you think about the 2011 tyres Tony, would there be anything wrong with them? Would the manufacturers warranty have expired after 5 years? SMARTLY
Thought "H" rating was OK for winter tyres as you are not going to be doing 130mph are you?
Rich
The summer tyres are W and I thought you could only have 1 rating below that, which is V, H is 2 under.
Tony
2011 tyres unless heavily discounted would worry me with accelerated deterioration. As for the rating V. H wouldn't bother me providing the load ratting is the same.

H wouldn't bother me providing the load ratting is the same. Yeah I thought so, 5 years is a bit too much for us as they'll last 3-4 years. If someone was going to do a lot of mileage and change them in a year it'll be worth it. The rating might not bother you but it'll bother the insurance company if they find out
Tony
You should tell them first but if the load rating is the same then there's no problem, same as if you up the rating do they give you money back.....No
Rich
They'll look for any excuse to invalidate a policy should you need to claim and I'm not prepared to take that risk.

Rich
When is the cheapest time to buy winter tyres? Are they ever reduced after winter has finished to clear as I might get them then for winter next year. If we have any bad weather in the next couple of months the missus can just drop me off at work and she uses the Accord for the day.
Tony
Most places have then on sale or return although the retail price does go up in the event of snow but this is due to ordering outside of the stock package.
Rich
So I guess the only advantage of getting them at the end of next year is they'll be newer.
Tony
No guarantee if they are a stock package.
Rich
I emailed tyre leader about some Nokian A3s they have. They've been replaced by the A4 now. BB can do the A4 for the same price I can buy the A3 plus them fitting for me. The A4 barely has any reviews though compared to the A3, which is why I'm looking for the latter. Anyway, I asked how old they were and they said anything over 36 months will have the DOT on the website, these ones don't so under 3 years. Do you think they'll be ok to buy? Not many places have them left in stock. Other option is the Michelin crossclimate but they're not a true winter tyre.
SMARTLY
Surely the A4 replaces the A3 and are therefore newer, better and why less reviews?
Tony
Makes sense...... What review site are you using Rich?
Rich
I mainly use tyre reviews. I'm not saying the A4 is a bad tyre but there are only 3 reviews over 2,600 miles. The tyre has been out for nearly a year I think so I'm surprised at the lack of reviews for it. The A3 reviewers have covered 447,000 miles so there is a lot more information about them out there. Of course tyres are subjective anyway so we could end up hating them but when I'm spending £500 on tyres I'd like to go with something that has a lot reviews.
