Tony
In a year without any claims the BMW insurance has nearly doubled.... We thought sod that and try somewhere else but they have all gone up.... It really narks me off that insurance pricing is so out of touch with inflation, it seems they have the licence to print money
SMARTLY
I've got this to look forward to next month
adam_r
Mine went down this year... £270! I even got £40 back for moving to my new house
Tony
I just don't get how they keep putting it up? Same car, i haven't claimed or moved so what made me a higher risk?
Rich
Isn't this normal in the hope you auto renew and pay the inflated price. Mine went down with abit of haggling.
Tony
Surely that's a downright conn.
Steve-O
You definitely have to shop about. Loyalty is a lost concept so you have to vote with your feet. Have you tried the comparison websites?
SMARTLY
As I posted in another thread some of the insurance companies are charging up to £50 to renew now
Tony
You definitely have to shop about. Loyalty is a lost concept so you have to vote with your feet. Have you tried the comparison websites? Yes and the difference is minimal, in fact hardly worth the hassle.
Viking
Tony, I presume you've tried the forum sponsors "Prestige"? After that, you could try Chris Knott insurance, they sponsor another forum I'm on.
Rich
Plus the ones not on comparison sites, Aviva and Churchill.
Rich
For the new car we're looking at I've been getting insurance quotes online and with a bit of tweaking have got it down to £430 (from £500) with legal cover added and taking off cashback. Unfortunately the Admiral group are coming in the cheapest so we might have to go back to them. As it's for the missus I think we'll go with Diamond as it includes handbag protection for an extra £3! Taking 2k miles off the estimated mileage gave the biggest reduction, if I add it back it's another £50. Try tweaking your mileage Tony and if you have it too low that can also increase the premium so start it at around 5k miles a year.
Tony
Goes to show what you can save if you hunt around.... Why would low mileage like mine cost more?
Rich
Goes to show what you can save if you hunt around.... Why would low mileage like mine cost more? You don't need to hunt around, just tweak the data on the comparison sites. It does depend on the insurer as not all of them do it but if you don't do much mileage then you're not on the road much so you're classed as not having much experience. Same with excess, don't put it on something silly like £300 when you'll probably get the same premium with £100 excess.
